Something just occurred to me--does anyone remember in the pilot when Chico shows Ed the necklace he wears, with a crucifix, a couple of saints and a Star of David, because he "doesn't take any chances"? Whatever happened to it? Has anyone ever heard if it was Freddie's in real life? I thought it must have been, because he was half-Jewish and maybe insisted on wearing it, so somebody thought they needed to explain why totally-Hispanic Chico wore a Jewish symbol. But it seems to have disappeared almost immediately.

Marie,
I do remember him wearing a necklace and I remember a medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe to whom he referred in the earlier episodes.I remember him looking up to heaven and speaking to her whenever he needed help.I seem to remember also some kind of medal having to do with the military. Wasn't Chico a vet??? I wish I had the earlier episodes on video tape-guess we'll have to wait to see them from the beginning-that could take years if they only show one per day! Bye for now, Esmerelda(Susan) |

Yeah, it was stated often in beginning of the series that Chico had been to Viet Nam. He and Ed even applied for VA loans. I always found it odd that Chico was supposed to be something like 24 years old--wasn't Freddie only 19 at the start of the show? Oh well, I guess even a guy that young could have been a vet back then.
P. S. My name's not Marie, I just like butterflies and "mariposa" is the Spanish word. [This message has been edited by MariposaLKB (edited 03-19-2001).] |

Close enough! I wish I understood more of what he says. I should, since I had almost a minor in Spanish in college! I just love the way he kinda lisps, even when speaking English, because of the influence of Spanish on his way of talking!
