Thumbs up Ratings Information!!

At 8 p.m., NBC's "American Dreams" got off to a good start, as the debut episode pulled in 9.0/14.

This is very good news!

Default Thought it would do better

NBC did tons or promo for American Dreams, I thought it would get at least a 17/18 share.

LOL! You don't know much about ratings do you? I mean, Friends barely pulls in those types of numbers! My gosh, you can expect certain things, but NOT MIRACLES!

I hope the ratings stay this good. As we all know, NBC has a tendency to cut it's shows very quickly...

What are you talking about? Friends pulls in higher number than that. The premeired to 34 million viewers and they usually get about 26 million viewers an episode. So it isn't barley.

LOL is right. ED got a 17 share when it premiered two seasons ago. So practice what you preach.

ha, ha, ha! I've got some ratings numbers for that'll end any arguments! First off we have the #1 show of 1999 being "E.R." with a 17.8 rating. What is amazing is that the #1 show of 1998 was "Seinfeld" and it's rating was 21.7! That is awful! "The Cosby Show" scored the highest rating of the modern era in 1987 when it finished at #1 with a whopping 34.9! I like looking at the ratings and see how much a difference in viewers a show might have. in 1951 the #1 show was "Texaco Star Theatre" with Milton Berle. It pulled in a 61.6 rating and do you know the margin of difference between that and the #2 show "Fireside Chat"? The #2 show rated a 52.6! nine million more people watched uncle Miltie. What's funky is that the show rated dead last in the Top-30 of 1951 was a tie between "Lux Video Theatre" and "The Speidel Show" which both pulled in a 31.5 rating!! In 1999 the dead last show was again a tie: both "60 Minutes II" and "Diagnosis Murder" pulled in a 9.0 rating. Tell me, how can you go from a #30 show rating of a 31.5 in 1951 and 9.0 in 1999? The show in question, "Friends", finished #2 in 1999 with a 15.7 rating but in 1998 it finished #4 with a 16.1 rating!?! How odd is that? They had more viewers when it was #4 than when it reached #2!

Ratings are going down for several reasons. Not because some people think the broadcast networks have no shows worth watching. The reasons are: Since the late 1980's more broadcast networks having been establishing Fox, UPN,the WB, PAX. Fox stilling the most viewers, and UPN and The WB at the most stealing 4 million viewers each. And PAX probably stilling 1-2 million viewers. Causing a decrease in ratings for the other 3 major broadcast networks. And also the fact that more and more cable networks are being established. You could put on a channel about teeth all day and it would still steal some viewers. If Fox, UPN, The WB, PAX were tooken off the air I'm sure the 3 major networks would have their ratings go up.

Yeah there's just too many things to choose from these days. Back in the day, there was only NBC/CBS/ABC so that's what people watched. Now there's so much on that you need two vcrs if you want to catch everything. HBO is a perfect example of stealing viewers. The sopranos gets more ratings on Sunday then some of the other networks. HBo is only carried in 20 mil homes and 13 mil people watch Sopranos. Compare that to 25 mil people who watch Friends and public tv is in 100 mil homes.

Yeah, and ED premiered... two seasons ago. Comparing anything beyond last year is too unrealistic. Trends have changed way too much. So, why don't you get informed, my friend.. GET INFORMED

If American Dreams keeps up it's performance in the ratings, it should be around for a while. Last week it was #22 tied with "My Wife & Kids", "NYPD Blue", and "The Practice", which is pretty good for a new drama.

Look, you have no idea what you are talking about. My entire point was and still is that I expected this show to get a higher share rating because NBC promoted it like crazy.

CSI: Miami got a 24 share
Even Boontown received a 15 share

and the heavy promoted 8 Simple Rules got an 18 share.

So you are the one who needs to get informed.
