Sorry, right number
This episode has a few unique features. Its the first episode that introduces Sam as Alice's boyfriend. When Sam comes to the house to pick up Alice, he comes into the house through the back kitchen area by Alice's bedroom. Alice leaves with him through the back door. I dont believe its ever inferred again people come and go through this area. However in a few episodes we do see a door in the laundry room. This episode is ridiculous where Mr Brady installs a pay phone in the house that creates havoc and almost makes Mr Brady lose a lucrative deal. But all of this was Alice's idea. When she sees a pay phone in Sam's butcher place she tells Mr Brady about the idea. Rarely does Alice give such advice to the parents. Its also one of the first episodes that Florence does not wear the wig in season 1.
There is one thing about this episode that is not logical. When Carol is talking to her friend on the phone and her friend does not hang up, they cant clear the line for Mike to make a call. If you grew up in the 70s like me you know this is not true. It is true that if one party did not clear the line you would stay connected. If you hung up for a second, the phone would stay connected. However after about 5 seconds the lines would clear. Can you imagine how much money buying a pay phone would be and then have someone install it in your house. The realistic part of this episode was the phone bill back in those days did calculate how many calls you would make. You were allowed to make so many calls for a base price and anything long distance or calls greater than the base would cost you extra. Alice tried to help in this episode but I think she made things worse even though it did have a happy ending. The Bradys got rid of their pay phone but Mike's client was so impressed he got a pay phone for his family

I always thought the one who initiated the call had to hang up to clear the line.... I have memories of being in first grade and talking to my friend on the phone, sometimes I'd get mad at him and take his line hostage, if I made the call, I would refuse to hang up sometimes, and once his mom came on the phone angry and was like, "HANG UP THIS PHONE!" lol |

I think the operator actually is still around.... I remember in 2018 when I moved into my apartment and was testing my phone, on a whim I just dialed 0 and the operator came on |
