Default MeTV Toons!

I just saw this and it looks like a reboot of the original Cartoon Network. Here's a link to the info.

https://cordcuttersnews.com/metv-is-...ed-metv-toons/

I would love to see this channel provided it doesn't replace MeTV or Catchy Comedy. Living in the NYC metro area I thing I'll have a good chance to see it. I also hope that there are streaming options for this channel.

New channel trailer and Jerry's announcement on Cartoon Research.

https://www.metvtoons.com/

https://cartoonresearch.com/index.ph...es-metv-toons/

"Let’s go over what I can tell you: Number one – this is not another “Boomerang”. As best I can describe it – think 1992 Cartoon Network – TIMES 100. On steroids."

"The are NO PLANS for this channel to ever produce new animation (as Cartoon Network did). This is a Classic Cartoon channel devoted to the history of animation."

The announcement says there will be original content, yet Jerry says no (^).

Quote:
Jerry Beck is well known for his numerous insightful and entertaining books on American animation and classic characters, including The 50 Greatest Cartoons, The Hanna-Barbera Treasury, Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies: A Complete Illustrated Guide to Warner Bros. Cartoons and many other works. For MeTV Toons he will help produce original content that will expand and enhance the viewing experience.

By the way, the post above isn't meant to be negative or critical--just an observation. Sounds like there are a few misunderstandings, or details to be worked out.

I figure the Network would have to really catch on with a younger audience before considering original animated shows.

This is wonderful news! Something to look forward to.

I'm sure this is a pipe dream but wouldn't it be great if they could get all the unused and forgotten Walt Disney era shorts and animation-related anthology TV hours (Von Drake, Ranger etc.). And The Mouse Factory. Disney+ will never show them...

That would be a big get. If Disney was ran by competent and sane individuals, there would have already been a Vault Disney diginet.

More news below, about programming and ratings:

https://www.cartoonbrew.com/business...on-241017.html

"In a presentation yesterday, Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co., explained the reason for launching this new
network, and it largely has to do with the popularity of the Saturday morning animation block on the existing MeTV channel. In the fourth quarter of 2023, he reported that MeTV’s cartoon block outperformed Seinfeld and The Office on Comedy Central, Law & Order on USA, and
Friends on Nick at Nite in the 25-54-year-old demo."

"Some of the programming on the network includes:

"Cartoon College: Overseen by Beck, this is a series of original interstitials that will explore interesting facts and little-known aspects of characters, creators, and cartoons shown on the network.
Quick Schticks: Spread throughout the daily programming will be clips of cartoon characters’ most iconic scenes."

^Just had a thought after watching the short video above. I know one of Jerry's longtime wishes is to see the original Bugs Bunny Show restored, with the original wraparound segments intact and in color. It would be great if that could somehow happen with this effort.

Hopefully they will use the network to bring attention to projects like
the one you mentioned above and any new home video releases such as the Looney Tunes Collector's Choice Blu-Rays.
Wondering if METV will stick with Toon In With ME, and if the show does continue, will they have access to the other animated libraries? Right now they could start using Toon In With ME as a special sneak peek for METV Toons.

Link to Antenna Man's must watch interview with METV's Neil Sabin about METV Toons. He mentions in the interview about last week's Bugs and Friends netting 500,000 viewers in the last 1/2 hour, which probably gave them the confidence needed to go ahead with the new network.

In the interview, he also discusses programs, schedules and available markets.

Original content and Original cartoons are two different things. Jerry Beck mentioned something he's calling "Cartoon College" which it looks like a review of cartoons and characters, etc. To me that sounds like Cartoon Network's " Toon Heads". He did say no new cartoons just established classic cartoons.
