As one of the greatest independent franchises of all time, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles celebrates an important milestone this 2024: Its 40-year anniversary. Created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman in 1984, the Turtles started out in the pages of Mirage Comics before evolving into a global juggernaut who touched everything from animated series, live-action films, video games, toys and lunchboxes. Remarkably, Turtlemania continues to run wild to this day, as different iterations of the characters draw in newer generations of fans while still keeping the old guard invested. In celebration of the 40-year anniversary, CBR caught up with comic book creatives Erik Burnham, Vincenzo Federici, Sarah Myer, Fero Pe and Tom Waltz, who have all contributed to IDW Publishing's Ninja Turtles books over the years. They discussed their own special experiences and associations with the Turtles, as well as what they felt made these characters still connect with an audience. In addition, they revealed what will be necessary to ensure another 40 years of success. |
