Thumbs down The Reasons Why

The reason why I think Hollywood Squares sucks because they changed up the set and got rid of Whoopi Goldberg!!! Also their bonus round sucks as well, they seem to run the clock fast or something and who cares about the keys!! I liked it where the constantants sat down with the X and O between and now they just stand up and all of the stuff is by computer!!! I liked the other bonus rounds better, the ones where you picked the star and asked the question and won a prize and the one where you won money for each question answered and had a chance to double it!!! Like the old saying goes,"If It Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It"
BRING BACK WHOOPI GOLDBERG!!!!!!

Are you joking? Whoopi Goldberg was no more than someone who used the show as a spring-board for their own left-sided, sex-filled comedy which is much more stupid than it is funny. Ellen DeGeneres, on the other hand (who has been doing these past two weeks as the center square), is a nice change from her. She is a kind, funny woman who does not use sexual comedy to get an easy laugh. And, it appears that she has a great respect for the show as a whole, including the original show.

Furthermore, the new bonus round is a very similar, very popular bonus round used from the 1970s to the 1980s, and was even used on the John Davidson-hosted The New Hollywood Squares, albeit slightly changed. (In that version, you merely randomly picked one of five keys, and on the fifth day, only one key would be left, so you automatically win.) It is ludicrous to believe that this bonus game is any worse than last years speed-round game which was, in my opinion, pathetic.

Furthermore, your statement "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" doesn't apply to this show. The show was dramatically losing most of it's audience, falling very low in the ratings, and with the addition of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in many markets, was receiving a downgrade in timeslots. The show was, in fact, broke, and therefore needed fixing.

: Whoopi Goldberg is a lot funnier than Ellen DeGeneres!!! She brought life into the show!!! All that you're blowing is hot air about Ellen DeGeneres is that she's smarter than Whoopi Goldberg!!! When in fact,Whoopi Goldberg is a lot smarter than Ellen DeGeneres!!! She won an Oscar and an Emmy!!! What does Ellen has to show for herself??? Nothing!!! As the old saying goes,"To Each His Own"!!Another thing,Hollywood Squares wouldn't have won best game show at the Daytime Emmys without Whoopi Goldberg!!!

It's pathetic that you honestly believe this. This was one of the most popular game shows of the sixties and seventies, and won several Emmys without Whoopi. To honestly believe that Whoopi won the show it's Emmy is ridiculous.

Whoolpi was never one of my favorites on the Squares, but I had no problem with her either and would not have minded one bit if she were to return. However, after seeing Ellen Degeneres in there for the past two weeks, I much preferred her. I do like the idea of rotating center squares as there should be someone there during the season that will please almost everybody. Personally, I'm looking forward to the Peter Marshall week.
And BravesFan, I am going to have to agree with PPatters here in that the show was going down in the ratings so some big things did need to be done. I'm pretty ambivelent (sp?) towards the bonus round. Rumor has it though that there will be changes in that in the upcoming weeks so stay tuned I guess.

brypie, you have taken the words out of my mouth. My thoughts mimic yours exactly. Didn't mind Whoopie but now that I see the revamped show I think its actually much better. I think it will be more interesting to see different center squares. I can't wait for the Peter Marshall week either! The flow of the show seems better too...like the commercials are spaced differently or something so it doesn't seem like there are as many.

I like the new version a lot better...the set, no Bruce Vilanch, the stars, the music, no Bruce Vilanch...did i mention no Bruce Vilanch?! Makes it a lot better in my opinion!

I never really liked Hollywood Squares, although Whoopi was somewhat amusing. This game is too easy. You've got to agree or disagree...you have a 50/50 chance here. Anyone could do this, and it doesn't challenge your knoweldge or anything. Plus, the celebrities have always made up 5th rate jokes to add onto the mess. Now, without Whoopi, the show is basically unwatchable.

Cool

The "New" Hollywood Squares is much better. The behind the scenes footage going into commercial breaks is much more fun and interesting than those lame old trivia questions, the new set looks nice and bright and the new end game is 100 times better than that lame-o version they had before. And by the way I don't miss Whoopi at all!!!!!!!!!(or Bruce Villanch for that matter!!!)

What are you talking about? Few of the celebrities make ANYTHING up. Most of these jokes are written by writers, the same writers that received one of the first Emmys awarded to a game show for writing back when the show first aired.
