In 1992 CBS decided to press it's luck by debuting one of the most underrated game shows ever in history that few people never knew it existed. That game show is known as The Hollywood Game and you can see why it was short-lived. Why is The Hollywood Game so underrated? Because CBS did a wrong thing by cancelling it after four episodes and it was supposed to be a six episode season. The Hollywood Game was hosted by Bob Goen and was a trivia game featuring teams of two contestants testing their knowledge of everything related to movies actors/actresses TV shows sitcoms and more. At the beginning of each show Bob Goen asked the teams of contestants what their favorite movies and sitcoms or other TV shows were in addition to their hobbies. Then the gameplay began with rounds filled with two questions in which a lighted HOLLYWOOD sign would light up with categories of questions hidden in each letter of HOLLYWOOD "Similar to Jeopardy's category board" and the categories consisted of topics such as Jeff Goldblum Movies Celebrities In Commercials Star Trek History Harrison Ford's Starring Roles and so on and the contestant team got to choose the first category and a Youtube-like movie clip or a TV clip would be playing when Bob Goen read the question and the team that buzzed in the correct answer won points and it was repeated in the second round until the team with the highest points scored won the game and went on to a bonus round "Though I cannot recall what the top prize in the bonus round was or how the bonus round was played" The Hollywood Game was an interesting game but why CBS decided to pull the plug on it after four episodes were produced instead of the six episodes that were originally gonna air i'll never understand? I think The Hollywood Game's promotion was similar to the way CBS promoted Million Dollar Password with Regis Philbin. In my eyes The Hollywood Game should've been well promoted by CBS and had it been promoted right CBS would've had a promising primetime game show hit of 1992
What's the story behind why CBS cancelled The Hollywood Game in 1992? |

It might have been a decade too soon. Primetime game shows were a dead zone in the 90s until Who Wants to be a Millionaire? came and made them popular again. Even then The Hollywood Game might not have done well on CBS. Their Winning Lines which was a good show did not have the success of Millionaire, The Weakest Link or cancelled too soon Greed.
