First Episode-Different Front Door with Hallway, Staircase, Extra Bedroom - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

On the first episode of Family Matters, when Carl let's Mother Winslow in the front door, it's a different kind of front door and there is a hallway. The staircase in the living room is different and at the bottom of the stairs, there is an extra bedroom to the left. Does anyone know the info with all of that and why it wasn't used beyond the first episode?

The set was probably changed because it didn't look good. If my memory serves me, in the kitchen during the first episode, the staircase that led to the upstairs was not a part of the set.
