Other: Reese's. Their Fastbreak candy bar is so good, and several other Reese's candy bars. Snyder's makes good peanut butter filled pretzels.

I have grown up eating PETER PAN,
have always like the smooth spreading on bread. If we had JIf or SKIPPY, it was harder to spread it without tearing the bread. Today, I use Smucker's Natural Creamy Peanut Butter, not for taste, but because there is no sugar added, just peanuts and salt. |

I have an old empty glass jar of the Superman brand. Yellow steel lid. Those ones in the photo with red & blue plastic lids came later.
I agree that some PB brands are harder to spread than others, but in all my years of eating the stuff, there was only 1 time I encountered one that I thought was substandard in taste. In fairness it was many years ago and it may have improved, but the one that disappointed me was Meijer brand. The brand I had most often growing up was Peter Pan, usually smooth. I've had good luck with store brands like Kroger, so I buy those. At one time in the early 1970s, my dad sent in for a paper Jif kite. Vertical colored stripes. So fragile, needless to say I no longer have it.

Here is how Superman PB jars looked originally. I don't remember ever seeing those later ones with dark labels.
This was the era of the highly successful Superman films in theaters. And before anyone jumps to conclusions, keeping one of those was the only time I saved a PB jar as a collectible. Otherwise I have a few old Peter Pan and Skippy glass jars I use for leftover soup, and some misc. big plastic jars that have house paint stored in them. ![]() Batman has also had his place in the PB sun. Never saw either of these that I can recall. The one on the left is very likely from the time of the 1966 TV series. (Compared with the Superman brand, these were very short-lived.) |
