Did Ethel Merman Originally Sing on Saturday's Johnny Carson?

It originally aired in 1979, she was a guest along with Angie Dickinson and the inventor of the Heimlich maneuver. Ethel only had one talking segment, I don't know if Antenna TV couldn't get the rights to her song or there just wasn't time. I won't bother watching that episode again, wanted more of Ethel Merman and a lot less of the karate idiot who set himself on fire.

Don’t hold your breath, waiting on anybody belting out a song on these AntennaTV Carsons. Music licensing is cost prohibitive.

I remember when Buddy Rich was a guest. One would imagine him wailing away on drums….all they showed was Rich arguing with band members.

Heck….even the playing of “Tea for Two” isn’t done when Johnny bombs in the monologue on Antenna….some generic soft-shoe is played while Johnny taps away.

I was told by someone I know that he DID hear Natalie Cole singing “Inseparable” on a rerun, ao there may be exceptions.

But generally, music on these reruns is taboo, I suppose unless money is ponied up.
