Default My FIFA 2002 Belgium League Campaign

I have done it! I have conceived! I am in the Family Way. I have gone where no man has gone before. To depths far and wide, in one of the most curious games I've ever played:

The FIFA 2002 Belgium League Title

With Standard Liege.

Entering the last day of the season, I'm gonna go through to the title if I do but one thing. Match Gent's result. The standings before I play have us BOTH at 64 Points; I'm way ahead on goal diff'rence. Can he do it? Will Jeff Barnes suffer through ONE MORE FIFA 2002 game? Can I go where no man has gone before? Well I can.

BTW I'm to play Anderlecht the best team in Belgium by far. But having an off year. They would finish out of the Europe.

A general summary of earlier action w/the Home Team going 1st in all scorelines to add authenticity (W/FIFA, you take what you can get):

LIEGE 2 Genk 1

Last year's Champion

Mechelen 2 LIEGE 1

LIEGE 6 Aalst 0

My Whooping Stick, w/the IRL Aalst residing in 3rd Division Hell. A later result was to be most curious this.

La Louviere 1 LIEGE 0

fighting the controls all the way brother

LIEGE 2 Lierse 0

Waasland 1 LIEGE 5

Waasland or Lokeren. One of the most interesting things about Belgium footy is their constant name changing, like Germinal Beerschot from Germinal Ekeren and so on. And of course my 1st road win

LIEGE 3 Harelbeke 4

A relegated team, Harelbeke messed up my Home Record. No the AI did NOT call offsides AGAIN. He's Blind I say! Blind! But then again, so were the refs at 2002 World Cup. Too bad the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra didn't make it. You that read Lavan Chandran Data will figure it out. Amen.

Westerlo 3 LIEGE 1

LIEGE 3 Charleroi 2

Club Brugge 2 LIEGE 2

Nectar's Ambrosia! A ranked club. About this point, I got bored of playing and stopped for a few weeks, but later I sucked it up and moved on to:

LIEGE 3 Beveren 2

Defense needs shoring up as you can see.

Antwerp 0 LIEGE 1

ALL 3 MATCHES w/this team ended 1-0, strange since Antwerp is one of the lower teams. A common theme to this game is of course "All Teams Play Like Robotic Transformers". Which kinda suited my style somewhat but isn't realistic to real life. Incidentally I once smashed Tahiti 28-13 in a 45 Minute Half game using Australia in RTWC 98. And I won't even mention the time that Bangladesh, vs my Saudi Arabia, scored not 1, not 2, but 3 times from 40 Yards Out! in a 13-5 Loss. FIFA 2002, despite the fact that its a chore to play, was a most competitive game this.

LIEGE 0 Lommel 0

Somewhat meaning that of course I would get bored AGAIN and put it down for a week. Before I did, however, I SIMMED this score. And it mostly did not flatter Liege this.

BELGIUM CUP ROUND 1

Antwerp 0 LIEGE 1

This stirred my Spirit Man into being. For I wanted to beat the computer to a crisp, using my passing system. Obviously I was greatful for the Survival

Gent 1 LIEGE 0

My arch enemy of the Belgium Championship

LIEGE 3 Germinal Beerschot 2

LIEGE 2 Excelsior Mouscron 1

Anderlecht 1 LIEGE 0

A bad run defeat where my best striker MARTIN ARST got sent off for a Niggly Foul. I only brushed him I say! But no, the Anderlechtian was lying w/a fractured pelvis.

Genk 2 LIEGE 3

A Barnes Trademark, the 2-3 scoreline is testament to a style I would go with for the rest of the season: The Lavan Chandran Counterattack. Get the ball to the Forwards and shoot. For more information, do a simple Google Search for "Lavan Chandran FIFA 2002 review" for its a Keeky Blast! This catapulted me into confidence for the rest of the season as Genk is of course the IRL defending champion of Belgium.

BELGIUM CUP QUARTERFINALS

Geel! 3 LIEGE 2 (penalties 4-2)

EA Sports in their lack of wisdom put in GOLDEN GOAL extra time instead of just playing the 30 Minutes to the end. With a 1-1 regulation result, Geel scores at the 104th minute to make it 2-1. I had 16 Minutes to Score or that was that. So I reset and started over, giving myself 16 Minutes to score. After GEEL had almost nipped a 2nd extra time goal to make it 3-1, I scored in the 12th minute (of 16) at the 116 Minute mark to send it to penalties at 2-2 (after the fair time ran out w/the 2-2 score standing, I just booted the ball around until penalties). Which I lost. Since I was trying to sim properly, the result stood. Have you ever walked up to your machine and "Accidently" press Reset? Well, I didn't do it. For the Sim must go on. Even if it IS a FIFA.

LIEGE 1 Mechelen 0

Aalst 4 LIEGE 8

I was scored upon 4 Times! And I was Mad! I went w/a 3-3-3 All Out Attack and blew them up. My man Martin Arst had 5 Goals in this game!

LIEGE 2 La Louviere 1

Lierse 2 LIEGE 2

LIEGE 0 Waasland (Lokeren) 0

My 2nd and Last Sim.

Harelbeke 0 LIEGE 1

LIEGE 3 Westerlo 2

Royal Charleroi 3 LIEGE 3

LIEGE 3 Brugge 0

Most impressive Catenaccio here. I stymied their midfield supply line, thus cutting off the flow of goals. Besides, they were lagging at this point in the season. I used a nice Isoscles Triangle shape in the midfield w/my man Ernst and sometimes Lukunku cutting off the gaps. You in rec.sport.soccer and the great comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.sports may remember that I posted on the Isoscles Triangle formation months back. If not, simply search for "Jeff Barnes's Isoscles Triangle Formation". And everybody said Amen. Amen.

Beveren 1 LIEGE 1

LIEGE 1 Antwerp 0

2 chances TOTAL for Antwerp despite using the counterattack style. My possession numbers varied from 40 % to a high of 48 by this point, but alas, it was Route 1 Football and some passing to the Forward Line. No way did I want to Dick w/the ball on the Possession. For I had to protect the average defense led by the great GK Susnjara. For Isoscles can only go so far! And if you're saying 'Who's Susnjara?', well that's what I said.

Lommel 2 LIEGE 2

LIEGE 2 Gent 1

Down 1-0 in the 2nd Half, I switched to a 3-4-3 and moved Lukunku to the Striker. For I had lost Goossens to RED. My man came through. Lukunku is most versatile

Germinal Beerschot 0 LIEGE 5

What can I say? I blew them up in a Must Win situation. Martin Arst w/a Hat Trick and an assist to Cavens. Beerschot looked gassed by halftime!

Excelsior 4 LIEGE 3

A back and forth struggle in which I was trying to win to get Gent off my back. But they nipped me and this is where we are now in the standings:

STANDARD 19W 7D 7L 74F 45A 64 PTS
Gent 19W 7D 7D 44F 30A 64 PTS

3rd Place Genk, 4th Place Anderlecht, and 9th Place Club Brugge are out of the Money. Brugge vs Lierse in the Belgium Cup Final; winner to the UEFA Cup.

Let's begin that Anderlecht game, like my other played games.

10 Minute Halves
Professional Level
Normal Game Speed
Fair Sim Play (no cheating!)

LIEGE 1 Anderlecht 0

With the 20th win of the year, Liege wins the Championship. A cheeky Martin Arst penalty wins it in the 1st half.
Club Brugge wins the Belgium Cup over Lierse 1-0 in the Final for a UEFA Cup Spot.

Top Scorer is Martin Arst w/26 Goals!

The top 10

Martin Arst STANDARD 26
Struyven LIERSE 13
Goossens STANDARD 12
Bangoura LOKEREN 11
Simons CLUB BRUGGE 11
Dugardein E MOUSCRON 11
Clement CLUB BRUGGE 10
Klomp HARELBEKE 10
Baseggio ANDERLECHT 10
Van Zundert GERMINAL BEERSCHOT 10

Also for Standard, LUKUNKU had 9, CAVENS had 7, M'BONABUCYA and ERNST had 4, MEYSSEN had 3, WALEM, DRAGUTINOVIC, AND SELYMES had 2, and finally TURACI had 1 goal.

Wasn't that Righteous?

Let's give Jesus a handclap.

For the saga of Standard Liege continues!

The Champions League is now Mine!

Hopefully.

And the Brady Bunch or Brady Grid:

Righteous Man.

It's real nice of you to give us a summary of your success in the Belgium League Campaign, but uh... can you please cut it short a little? You sorta lost me half way...
