Default What was the producers trying to accomplish by adding Janet Jackson to the show?

I always wondered what was the reason of adding janet jackson to the Good Times Cast in the 77-78 season? I hope it wasn't for ratings because if so it was a very poor attempt for higher ratings. This was a unnecessary addition to Good Times because All the Evans kids were pratically adults so why of a sudden add a 11 year old to the cast? In my opinion Good Times was on the air from 74-77-after 77 i don;t know what the show was or what it should have been called.

I think you just answered your own question. The cast was getting older, so it was harder to do "Growing Pain" type stories with young adults so they added a child to spice things up.

Well she added nothing-the show should have just revolved around J.J., Michael, Willona, and Thelma. The show did not need anymore characters. The show definitely took a downward spiral when she walked on the set.

Red face

Well not to me. I enjoyed Janet's performance on Good Times. She gave a different perspective to the show. How many times more was JJ going to say Dynomite???

Well if he didn't say it at the 77-78 it was a miracle....... Anyway I still liked when Janet came in the storyline.

Well i know there wasn't a lot of people liking Janet because the show wasn't even in the top 50. But it had to be expected-No James, No Florida, just a single willona, almost in his 20's michael, thelma, j.j and that horrible, horrible janet jackson-
