I don't know if anyone remembers the ad campaign "Time Changes, Great TV Doesn't". TV Land would take scenes from shows and doctor them to make it more relevant for today. They took a scene from My Three Sons and dealt with cloning, a scene from Family Affair and dealt with piercings.
Well here's the link to the article concerning a scene used from Leave It to Beaver to deal with tatoos: http://us.imdb.com/SB?20010308#8 It's the paragraph 2nd from the bottom. |

I guess if he wasn't asked, that would've angered him. It was just a simple little parody. I don't think it was that much to get upset about....jmo

I remember this TVLand advertising campaign (particularly the "Family Affair" spoof). I thought it was funny, as most of the TVLand commercials are. My favorite is Adam West dropping an expensive vase and announcing "life is too short to watch crap on TV."
Tony is very fond of his "Leave it to Beaver" years and I hardly think that he could imagine when he was fourteen or fifteen years old that "Leave it to Beaver" would be the classic TV icon that it is today. He is simply protecting the image of the original series, and according to the linked article, Viacom did not ask his permission to use his likeness in the TVLand advertisement. The linked article also mentioned the "Leave it to Beaver" spoof he did in a 1977 movie--the difference there is that he was asked and agreed to be a part of the movie. |

I can understand him being upset over this. They should have asked his permission about it. The way people are suing each other these days and all of the legal crap that goes on, I'm surprised a big company like Viacom didn't ask him about this! People are suing companys for the smallest, stupidest stuff these days, TVLand should have known they were asking for a lawsuit! I guess they put too much faith in the fact that "He's Wally Cleaver, he wouldn't sue anyone!"
Just my two cents. BBF |

Two of the craziest lawsuits I've ever heard about is the lawsuit against Hershey "I ate their candy and it made me fat!" and all the cigarette lawsuits. Sorry people, but the cigarette comapanies and the candy companies only manufacture it and distribute it. It's up to the shopper if they buy and eat the candy or take the chances with cigarettes. |

This is
too, but...The stupidest lawsuit I remember was the one about the lady who sued McDonalds because she burned herself on their coffee. She claimed that this wouldn't have happened if her cup had warned her the coffee was hot, so as a result, she won and McDonalds was told to warn people that their coffee was HOT. I mean come on! It's coffee for crying out loud! Of course it's going to be hot! If it wasn't hot, she probably would have sued them for serving cold coffee... BBF

I have to admit the one case that I wouldn't blame a person to sue on is the chicken tender case. Anybody remember that case where this person went and got some chicken tenders from McDonalds and one of the chicken tenders was a fried chicken foot? I wouldn't blame a person to sue about that. If it was me, I wouldn't want another piece of chicken any time soon!!!! |

Now what's really amusing about this is that Viacom are the absolute worst for suing people about using things without permission. They are infamous for threatening or suing teenagers with harmless "Star Trek" sites for infringement of copyright. I guess they feel it only works in one direction. I would think that "Wally" didn't like the fact that his ad wasn't consistent with the lifestyle presented in LITB.
