Thumbs up Next To Clifton Davis, Jester Hairston Is My Favorite

Mr. Jester Hairston's "one liners" made me laugh in many episodes on Amen.

In addition to his comedic talents, I appreciate the many songs and spirituals he penned in his lifetime.

Was very happy of his longevity and very sorry to read of his passing on the year 2000.

He reminds me of so many older gentlemen of the generation he represented and to me had an old-fashioned charm about himself that only comes with his age and experience in life. Much like my 91 year old Grandfather. Very alert and very charming--he gets in some "one liners" too.

Default Rolly Was 2 Funny

Rolly was real funny, I like it when the Deacon would say something and Rolly would come back with the 1 hitter quitter line and diss the deacon. My favorite episode with Rolly is when they went up to the mountains and they didn't have real food to eat and Rolly told up everybody he'll catch up with them and finish his beef jerky. Instead he pulls the cover off of his so called Luggage and it's a basket of food. Then I like it when James Avery who was playin the character Arnie Samples an ex convict lookin for Dea. Fry, James Avery comes in Rolly cabin and asks for Deacon and Rolly has a big turkey drumstick. Arnie starts slobbing over the turkey drumstick and Rolly asks him is he hungry and he says he hasn't had a decent meal in 5 years and Rolly says there's a nice coffee shoppe down the road and starts to point the turkey drumstick toward James Avery. That's my favorite scene with Rolly in Amen.

I just recently saw a funny scene with Rolly. The Deacon was trying on a pink dress for Thelma and Rolly walked in and was looking the Deacon up and down for 5 min before he started treating him like he was gay-LOL

I loved Jester Hairston as Rolly! Rolly was the one who got the best lines, and he was indeed like everyone's favorite grandpa. In choir we actually sang one of his songs: "Poor Man Lazarus". May he rest in peace.

Hairston also wrote the fantastic Christmas song, "Mary's Boy Child", which Jim Reeves recorded before his death in 1964 and Andy Williams sang on his Christmas special in 1965.

I did not know that Jester Hairison got a star on the walk of fame. That is awesome. Does anyone know when the event took place. It had to be years ago.

I haven't been able to find out when the star was dedicated for Jester Hairston. But I did find out the address that it is located: 6161 Hollywood Blvd.

If anyone has more information, I'd love to know the date of dedication as well.

I didn't know he had a star on the Walk of Fame myself. How cool.

Jester played one of my all time fave characters on television: Rolly. I loved that man. He was hilarious with just the few times he was heard.

He had incredible comic timing as well. Sometimes all he had to do was just stare at Sherman Hemsley and I'd just be !

I have a version on a Christmas CD sung by Harry Belafonte. That is indeed a beautiful song.
