Default Norton is a Lousy Antivirus Provider, Beware!

My parents got ripped off when they paid for Norton last year. My mom had assumed the Norton safe browser lived up to its name. But shortly after she switched to that as the main browser she was locked out of her Facebook account and email. Email was fixed by the Xfinity store a few weeks ago but "Facebook" insisted she enter her credit card number to get access back, which actual Facebook will never do. Then it was found every time I had logged onto my Facebook account at their house, phishers were trying to get our passwords. My parents took their computer to a good local repair store last week. There were 92 cases of malware and pups on it caused by Norton. (I had not heard the pups term for computers before, stands for potentially unwanted programs.) Their repair technician who was fantastic did not charge them, said Norton is a horrible company.

The less one can live with as little tech as possible, the better, t his coming from an OLDer person as I'm sure OLDer folks for sure are getting screwed by a lot of screwdrivers........I wanted nothing to do with FB and know it was best decision......

These forums are enough and why not call some special, people in your lives...nothing like their voice...

I have a package with my phone company, Verizon, for a technical support and security deal for about $16/mo and it comes out of my phone bill....works absolutely great and very trusting people I deal with when I have to.

None of these high faluting companies constantly after more money....a real rat race we got out there....

The only sure way to to protest yourself against malware when browsing is to disable Browser's JavaScript and Cookies. And then use browser's Incognito or InPrivate mode which will automatically erase Cookies and JavaScript stored information when closing the browser.

I had trouble with Norton a few years back. The trouble started with a new operating system they supposedly weren't ready for. They never let the users know, and I had to have the Norton program un-installed.

Unrelated to that, later I had another computer problem, and a tech recommended installing Malwarebytes. Excellent antivirus--you must remember to run the free version yourself, but the paid version runs automatically in the background,

I don't recall particulars, but I remember having problems with Norton and I got rid of it for good.

Not about Norton, but I learned about CCleaner a long while ago and feel it does something good for my "old" system... It's free and I run it weekly for sure some times more...takes a minute.

I have heard bad stuff about Norton but one time my parents had it on the XP computer we had upstairs...... Some kind of STEALTH TROJAN had got on the computer and had a list on the screen of other computer it had attacked...... I saw this and pulled the modem instantly..... Then I opened task manager and started ending task on things..... I hit the trojan EXE and when I ended task on that,NORTON SAW IT AND ZAPPED IT FROM THE COMPUTER.......

It could not detect it when it was running as it was a "STEALTH" TROJAN meaning it could hide itself from AV programs........

When the computer got done rebooting it said "THE SYSTEM HAS RECOVERED FROM A FATEL ERROR"

Stupid Trojans!!!!!

THE PEOPLE THAT WRITE THIS CRAP ARE HORRIBLY MEAN..........
