Default The Mosquitos

This was always one of my favorite episode. The SONGS were the reason. The songs they did were great. There was a folk rock sounding instrumental which Gilligan is listening to on the radio, which later included word when they performed. The other song, "He's a Loser." Then there was the girls' song on that episode, "You Need Us."

The band was really called the Wellingtons and they did the theme song on the early, black and white shows. (When they re-recorded the song adding "the Professor and Mary Ann," they used different singers.")

The fact that the music was so good was testament to the creativity/inspiration in the 1960s (I'm a child of the 70s/80s). Same reason the Monkees music was so good. Music used in shows today would be generic and throw-away.

Is it me or does it sound like Alan Hale Jr. is singing the opening theme to the color eps? I know it isn't him but it sure sounds like him.

It sounds kind of like sailors or something. Or pirates. Definitely older guys than the Mosquitos.

I have no idea who sang the color version. Were they real people? I can't imagine...

Talking The HoneyBees

I love this episode too. I found this site today doing a search because I was going through some old unlabeled video tapes to see what was on them...low and behold I came across The HoneyBees performance I had taped. I love the song "You Need Me" and eah girl's performance is a riot. Lovey saying you need me and pointing to the "audience" an Thurston rolling his eyes is a riot...and who can forget the gogo moves of GINGER and Marianne's shimmy!! so hot!!!
does anyone out there love The HoneyBees??

I've always been partial to the Gnats' stunning performance, myself...

Seriously, I, too, loved this particular episode... though I would always have "He's a Loser" running through my head for at least a week after watching it... like I do right now.

Oh, and I've heard, somewhere, that the color version of the theme song was done by a group called the Eligibles, though I don't know anything else about them. :\
