Now, don't get me wrong. I'm a major Monkees fan. I love the singing of Mickey and David. I love the songs that Mike contributed.
But none of them could PLAY an instrument as well as Peter. He was like the only professional level musician in the band. Guitar, keyboards, bass. You can hear him ALL OVER the Headquarters album. He could play practically anything really well. I have the Live 67 album and I think it's a shame that he was stuck on the bass while Mike played guitar. I would love to hear Peter's guitar work live. I've never understood why he didn't promote his playing talents more. It's kind of sad. Maybe it was because he couldn't sing as well as the others. |
