Default Check It Out! - The Complete Series on DVD (4/8)

"Check It Out!" takes viewers on a riotous romp through Cobbs, a supermarket where Howard Bannister, played by the iconic Don Adams, battles to maintain order amidst the chaos. Alongside him is Edna Moseley (Dinah Christie), his trusty sidekick and love interest, as they face the daily challenges brought on by a cast of quirky characters.

From the endearing yet clueless stockboy to the consistently grumpy cashier, each member of the Cobbs team adds to the mayhem with their antics. Filmed in front of a live studio audience, the show delivers a relentless stream of slapstick comedy, witty one-liners, and an abundance of puns that keep the laughs rolling.

Inspired by the British sitcom "Tripper’s Day" from comedy writer Brian Cooke, "Check It Out!" brings its own unique flair to the supermarket setting. Cooke's expertise, honed from his work on US hits like "Three’s Company" and "Too Close For Comfort," lays the foundation for this uproarious comedy.

Check it out - you'll be treated to a comedic adventure where every corner of Cobbs holds a surprise, from the produce section to the frozen foods aisle. "Check It Out!" proves that sometimes, the best comedy is found right in your local supermarket. So grab your shopping cart and prepare to laugh your way down the aisles with Howard, Edna, and the rest of the zany Cobbs crew.

Already downloaded the eps from Tubi, but grabbing this anyway. I like it, corny and all, as well as the "prequels", Tripper's/Slinger's Day.

Had considered the Mantronix set until I found out how easy it was to rip from Tubi.

Nice to see (and hear!) the episodes in great quality without a TV-Land logo and other distractions.

"No one calls her 'Edner' but me!"
"Shut up, Viker!"
"Can you give me Geritol?!!"

I am actually shocked this show is getting an official DVD release. It gives me hope for some other lesser known shows from the 1980s.

I happened to be browsing the VEI website to see what was still in print these days as most of their catalogue is no longer available...shows like Longstreet and Hotel (so glad I snagged that one in 2018). I was surprised to see an official physical release of this show too. I had already watched it all on Tubi during the second half of 2023 and I found it very witty, relatable, corny, and overall easy to watch more than once (something I can't honestly say for many shows). Tubi doesn't hold on to content forever so I already ordered this and got it yesterday. The pilot episode is above average for a lower budget sitcom of that era and it sets the show off in a good direction for the most part (Don Adams eventually pretending to be Bruce Springsteen notwithstanding haha)
