Basically Norman Lear wanted the Jeffersons to make it on their own without any help from their old neighbors. But that still doesnt explain why they could visit in 1978 or 1979,

Honestly it wouldnt have made sense for Archie because if he didnt visit them at their house in Queens why would he traveled all the way to Manhattan to see them? Maybe Edith would make sense and since she wouldnt be traveling without Archie it was no point in doing the crossover.
