'Bob's Burgers' Creator Talks About How He Got His Big Break in Hollywood

There are many notable stories of how celebrities got their start in Hollywood. Charlize Theron was discovered while waiting in line at the bank. Justin Bieber rocketed to fame after posting videos on YouTube. But on the order of improbability, "Bob's Burgers" creator Loren Bouchard has them all beat.

Bouchard explains that in the early 1990s he was living in Boston, not doing that much with his life, when a chance encounter with his eighth grade science teacher changed everything. It just so happened that this teacher was Tom Snyder, the man who was in the process of creating the animated series "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist."

"I ran into him and he said 'You know, we're just getting started on these one-minute shorts for Comedy Central. Do you still draw?'," Bouchard recalls. "I wasn't even drawing at the time. I had no skill really to offer him. But I lied and said, 'Yes I still draw.' And I just knew that I was getting my lucky break."

Bouchard continues, "This was one of those lucky breaks on the order of magnitude that I often compare to winning the lottery, but it's actually even bigger than that. It was really a miraculous occurrence for me and I knew it too."

Bouchard would go on to write and produce for "Dr. Katz" for more than 20 episodes before creating the animated show "Home Movies" and consulting on "The Ricky Gervais Show." But now, he's all about the burgers.
