The Wonderful World Of Disney “The Muppets’ Wizard Of Oz”
Friday, May 20, 2005 8:00 - 10:00 PM Eastern/Pacific ABC Lions and tigers and Muppets? In this fun, contemporary take on a family classic, Dorothy Gale is a teenager with dreams of showbiz that seem far from coming true in the Kansas trailer park where she lives. When she's transported to the magical land of Oz, she and her sidekick, Pepe the King Prawn as Toto, join with the Scarecrow (Kermit the Frog), the Tin Thing (Gonzo) and the Lion (Fozzie Bear) to fight the Wicked Witch of the West (Miss Piggy) and find the wizard who might make her a star. Starring: Ashanti, David Alan Grier, Queen Latifah, Jeffrey Tambor, Quentin Tarantino |

This is one of those things I won't be able to refrain from watching. I doubt it'll be that good, but at the same time love the wizard of oz, and it's an intriguing idea. Sorta like a train wreck. Hopefully I'm proved wrong- but really, the wizard 'who will make her a star'? What happened to the unselfish moral of the original story?
I wonder if any songs from the 1939 movie will be used- I'm not sure if that would be a good thing. The one thing that should be good is Miss Piggy as the witch. |

The Muppets did the "Wizard of Oz"
I prefer the 1939 version better with Judy Garland. It was a classic. The Muppets starred in the following movies:1. "The Muppet Movie" 2. "The Great Muppet Caper" 3. "The Muppets Take Manhattan" 4. "A Muppet Christmas Carol" 5. "Muppet's Treasure Island" 6. "Muppets in Space" |

Ah yes;ANOTHER classic ruin from the so-called family friendly folks from The Muppets. At least they could have pick a younger person to play Dorothy, not some want to be pop divia or whoever they got.AS for the 1939 version,it might have been a classic if they would have stuck with Sherily Temple and not go with the too old to play 10 year old Judy Garland like they did and like they are doing now.
Besides, she only got the part because of her singing, not because she was right for the part. What's next for them to ruin:The Muppets And Charlie And The Chocolate Factory?!?

I know the whole backstory about how MGM couldn't get Shirley Temple on loan. I also know that Dorothy's younger in the book- and you could say that Judy was miscast in the sense that the book called for a younger character. On the other hand, the script for the movie wasn't really specific to any age, so in that sense Judy wasn't miscast.
It would be fun though to see 100% faithful adaptations to all the books- they could be fantastic. But there's no doubt the original is probably as big a classic as a movie can be. I enjoyed Return to Oz too though- as far removed from the 1939 movie as you can get. |

The Muppets movie is based on the book, rather than the movie. So, this WILL be something different. The movie has gotten GREAT reviews at the Tribeca Film Festival. Should pull in huge ratings for a Friday night on ABC.

I was watching the Disney Channel yesterday and they had a little clip from the movie of Ashanti and the muppets singing some lame song together. It left me thinking "Why, Ashanti, Why"? She looked so uncomfortable. I do not have high hopes for this, but then again the muppets haven't done anything worthwhile since Jim Henson died. I'm sure in the end the kiddies will love it.
