Hello Out There From TV Land,
As many of us know here, the night of April 29, 1996 was a very important night for all of us Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite Enthusiasts: the official launch of a new 24/7 Sister Channel called TV Land (then officially known as Nick at Nite's TV Land), primarily showcasing some of TV's best-loved shows from the 1950s to the 1980s, with an all-night sneak peek from 8 P.M. to 6 A.M. ET exclusively on Nick at Nite. Among the shows seen exclusively that night on Nick at Nite were the Premiere TV Episodes of such shows that were part of the inaugural season of TV Land such as "The Addams Family," "Hill Street Blues," "St. Elsewhere," "My Mother the Car," and "Honey West," as well as the original "Happy Days" Pilot as seen on "Love, American Style" called "Love and the Television Set," with "Happy Days" itself officially joining the regular Nick at Nite lineup on September 9, 1996 with a week-long, 5-night "Happy Days Top 40 Marathon." Anyhow, in honor of 40 years of Nick at Nite (yes, I know I'm a year early, but I'm starting this year in honor of its impending anniversary next July 1, 2025), my plan is to start right now with 40 years worth of Nick at Nite Schedule Archives so my fellow Nick at Nite Enthusiasts can see how far Nick at Nite has come--as well as how Nick at Nite has turned to **** in relative recent years, with a few exceptions IMO. Here's the Nick at Nite Lineup from May 11, 1996, courtesy of The Lowell Ledger and other local newspapers across America as well as Nick Story Wiki among various other newspapers, starting at 10 P.M. and ending at 6 A.M. ALL TIMES EASTERN AND PACIFIC TIME ZONES. 10 P.M. The Addams Family 10:30 P.M. Mister Ed 11 P.M. St. Elsewhere: "Bypass" 12 A.M. I Love Lucy: "Don Juan Is Shelved" 12:30 A.M. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour: "Lucy Goes to Alaska" 1:30 A.M. The Dick Van Dyke Show: "Uhny Uftz" 2 A.M. The Mary Tyler Moore Show: "The Dinner Party" 2:30 A.M. Rhoda: "If You Want to Shoot the Rapids, You Have to Get Wet" 3 A.M. The Bob Newhart Show 3:30 A.M. Taxi: "Alex Tastes Death and Finds a Nice Restaurant" 4 A.M. The Munsters 4:30 A.M. The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour: "Lucy Goes to Alaska" (Repeat) 5:30 A.M. The Dick Van Dyke Show: "Uhny Uftz" (Repeat) So as I'm sure you folks can understand, from May 4, 1996 - July 6, 1996, every Saturday night from 10 P.M. to 12 A.M. ET, after the success of the all-night TV Land Sneak Peek on Nick at Nite, Nick at Nite had an exclusive weekly Programming Block called "Nick at Nite's TV Land Sampler," where every Saturday Night many of TV Land's Inaugural Season of Acquisitions would air regularly on Nick at Nite--among the lucky ones past Nick at Nite Acquisitions "Green Acres" & "Mister Ed" as well as a plethora's worth of new Nick at Nite Acquisitions such as "Mannix," "St. Elsewhere," "Hill Street Blues," "Sgt. Bilko," "Petticoat Junction," "The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour" and "The Ed Sullivan Show" just to name a few examples of many shows that were part of the inaugural season of Nick at Nite's TV Land that also rotatingly aired every Saturday night from 10 P.M. to 12 A.M. ET on Nick at Nite. From June 30, 1997 - July 4, 1997, TV Land and TV Guide teamed up together to create the 100 Greatest Episodes of All Time, with a special issue of TV Guide commemorating the event that week as well as a week-long Simulcast Event on both TV Land AND Nick at Nite, with many such shows as "Hill Street Blues," "St. Elsewhere" and "Sgt. Bilko" making their final Nick at Nite appearances during that week. Stay tuned for MORE Nick at Nite Schedule Archives and remember, if you want somebody to be YOUR Friend, you've got to be a friend to them. Bye Bye, Everybody! |
