Does anyone know why Rob and Sally left All in the Family?
Take care, Aaron the News Reporter Editor's note: Again, I corrected the capitalization of every word. |

I think Rob and Sally left to tackle bigger roles and bigger projects. I guess they just felt it was time to leave the Gloria and Mike characters. As you know, Rob made his way. I'm afraid Sally is probably still known more as her Gloria character than anything else she's done.
Just my guess...... |

When he left AITF, Rob already had a contract to produce and star in the ABC sitcom "Free Country". That premiered in 1978, but only lasted a few episodes. Sally also had already signed a deal with CBS to star in TV movies and to develop a new sitcom, but the sitcom never panned out (which is why she returned to star in "Gloria").

Like any actor, they leave because they can't make more money.

Rob and Sally left for other projects. we all know that Rob became a big time movie director and Sally became a commercial spokeswoman for the homeless overseas and a spokewoman for education in her college commercials. Sally was so memorable as Gloria that no matter what she did, visions of her crying on Archie's shoulder or arguing with Mike would always go through your mind. Ironically, after a 1971-1983 stint as Archie Bunker, Carroll O'Connor would be the one who would have on-screen success after the show: "In The Heat of the Night" from 1988-1994.
