MTS Season 3 E 27. Mike and someone are talking and that someone said that she was giving you the business.

I thought that saying was only on LITB. Was it a common saying back then?

Oh my, I believe that “giving/getting the business” may have been around over a century now, but I am not sure.

Great classic LITB scenes when Eddie gave dope Beaver the business. Beaver would half believe the prank. Wally would walk in at the end threatening to slug Eddie. Here's where Eddie after telling Wally to relax he was just giving Beaver the business would address Wally by sometimes Gladys or other female names. Great comedic acting by Ken Osmond not just by the delivery of the lines but how he carried himself, mannerisms and facial expressions first cocky then sheepish after confronted by Wally.

One example of that mighta been s3’s “The Mad Hypnotist.” Beaver & Larry watched a movie where a girl is hypnotized, and Beaver uses costume jewelry on a neighborhood cat (“Watch the magic omelet!”). Eddie witnessed it and told Wally, who explained he had seen a movie.

Eddie says to Wally, “Hey let’s give the Beaver the business; I will pretend I’m hypnotized…” and Wally threatening Eddie he better not do that. Well, Eddie went through with his plan without Wally, with comedic results, with Beav/Larry thinking they had Eddie in their power. Beav has a nightmare, and explains to Wally what it was about. Needless to say, Wally fixed Eddie good, as they continued to play along with the hypno gag. Then Eddie felt Wally, then actwd sheepish.
