It was said either in a book or a TV special, that if the Brady Bunch HAD gotten picked up for another season, they would have killed Robert Reeds character Mike. Would you still watch it? How would you feel? What are your thoughts?
---------------------------------------------------------------------- I, personally would have watched it, because, well its the Brady Bunch! It wouldnt, however be the same without Robert at all! I can see why they would get rid of him-cleary he hated doing the show, and everyone else hated him on the set etc. so I can see why they would do that- it would be the best for everyone. Still though, it wouldnt be the same, and if they kept Oliver but not Mike!!! LOL ahh!!!! |

I doubt they would have killed off Mike Brady. A plotline like that would have been way too progressive for the Brady Bunch. Hell, they didn't even have a toilet in their bathroom!
If the show had been renewed they would have either recast Mike Brady, or they would have him off on business somewhere. |

I"m sure I would have watched it, but wow, it would have seemed strange!
During the show's original run, none of us kids had any idea how much Robert Reed HATED the show (even though he loved all of the cast members). So it would have been a tremendous shock to have seen him actually killed off. Had they killed off Mike, we would no doubt have learned that he was written off of the show because of his many arguments and disagreements with Sherwood. Instead, I, for one, didn't learn about that till many years after the fact. I was 14 when the series went off the air... on the shows that I grew up watching, you just didn't kill characters off... the first character I remember being killed off during the run of a show was James Evans, the father on "Good Times", played by John Amos. And I remember seeing the episode when Florida Evans read the telegram informing her of James' death, during the original series run... I think I was just as much in shock as she was, maybe more! Killing off Mike would have been a total shock to me, and to a lot of other kids who were BB fans. And it sure wouldn't have seemed like the same show after that. In fact, during the BB original run, I'm sure I never noticed when a character was absent from an episode. I never noticed stuff like that when I was a kid, I just enjoyed the shows while they were on. I'm sure it didn't hit me that Mike wasn't in the final episode, despite Carol's comment at the end about "Gee Greg, it's too bad your father had to miss this" (Greg's graduation). That was just kind of a throwaway line. |
