Do You Remember when actor Martin Mull was spokesman for Red Roof Inn?

For those of you who remember actor/comedian Martin Mull perhaps you probably don't remember the time he was the spokesman for Red Roof Inn in their commercials. I guess Martin Mull wanted to become like Tom Bodett was for Motel 6 so that's why Red Roof Inn chose Martin to be the motel chain's spokesman. These commercials show Martin at his funniest and are so funny to watch. It's no secret that Martin Mull became Red Roof Inn's big celebrity and would appear in the interactive TV guest menu providing guest services to Red Roof Inn guests. I had never even heard of Red Roof Inn until my parents and I stayed at one once during a road trip to Texas but Martin Mull sure made Red Roof Inn a lot of money to promote their commercials

I cannot figure out why Red Roof Inn chose Martin Mull to be their spokesman in the commercials in the 90's? But the commercials with Martin were very funny and as I mentioned in my opening post I guess Red Roof Inn wanted to be like Motel 6 did with Tom Bodett and they thought Martin Mull would become the Tom Bodett of Red Roof Inn considering since Motel 6 and Red Roof Inn are owned by the same company and with Martin Mull as spokesman I guess Red Roof Inn wanted to attract new customers at the time

With the passing of Martin Mull I feel Red Roof Inn should do a tribute commercial to him. Because Martin Mull was terrific as Red Roof Inn's spokesman and he brought a funny side to Red Roof Inn. I don't know why of all places Martin Mull got chosen to promote Red Roof Inn? As I mentioned in my earlier post I think Martin thought he could be like Tom Bodett in the Motel 6 commercials. I stayed at a Red Roof Inn once when my family stayed in Arizona on our way to Texas during a road trip and my view of Red Roof Inn was they were like Rodeway Inn or Knights Inn and since Red Roof Inn is owned by the same company as Motel 6 I guess Red Roof Inn wanted to give people the same thing as Motel 6. But I think due to Martin Mull appearing in their commercials Red Roof Inn became very popular and opened more locations in America
