Yes, the Major died of Althizmiers disease about 10 years ago. Also, Mary, Burt, and Jessica's doctor from season 4 are also dead.

 here's a little known fact about Arthur Peterson, the guy who played him: he was the star of "Guiding Light" from 1937-1947 on radio! he played Reverend Ruthledge, a preacher.
