Redd Foxx loved to insert his favorite songs into the episodes, usually with him singing them. Like all of us, we prefer the songs we grew up with, and all of his favorites were from the 1930s & 1940s for the most part when he grew up, which seemed ancient even back then as a teenager watching it in the 70's, but some of the most popular music today is 30 to 60 years old. I don't think the Beatles will ever be unappreciated or forgotten, like Mozart & Beethoven's music.
There was one song in particular that I'm pretty sure he or a guest star did called "Flat Foot Floogie With A Floy Floy" (original title was Flat Fleet Floogie . . .), but I can't find which episode it was on. He may have just simply played the song on his record player. I have the box set with all episodes and couldn't find it, but I skipped thru them searching and may have missed it. I thought it might have been the Scatman Crothers episode as it had both him & Billy Eckstine in it ("The Stand-In", Season 4, Episode 16), but no. This song was originally by Slim & Slam from 1938, but has been done by a lot of artists since. BTW, the episodes in the box set aren't numbered correctly. They have them in the correct seasons, but the episode numbers are mostly jumbled. |
