I have just finished binge-watching all four seasons of Chico and the Man. I was a huge fan of the show when it aired on TV Land in 2001, but haven’t seen much of it in twenty years. So, this was a fresh rewatch. Anyway, here are my five favorite episodes per season.

Season 1

Pilot
Chico persuades grouchy Ed Brown to give him a job at the garage by cleaning up the place, moving into a beat-up old van, and waiting on customers.

Lifestyle
Ed thinks Chico and his girlfriend are doing something kinky when he catches them in Chico’s van.

The Letter
Chico has to leave Ed in order to go into business with his cousin in New York. Ed doesn’t take the news very well.

Sammy Stops In
Sammy Davis, Jr. goes to Ed Brown’s Garage in order to get his car fixed. Chico and Louie are annoyingly star-struck, while Sammy recognizes Ed from Vaudeville.

Long Live the Man
It’s printed in the paper that Ed has died. Ed then becomes depressed when he discovers no one showed up for his funeral.

Season 2

Chico and the Van
Chico tries to install a bathtub in the garage. This leads to an inspector fining Chico and Ed and kicking Chico out of his van. He stays in Ed room for a while, but that drives them both crazy.

The Disappearance
Chico is worried that Ed’s living too much in the past when he finds “the Man” playing the piano and singing old songs in a bar Ed and Margaret used to go to on their anniversary.

The Big Brush-Off
Chico falls head over heals for Ed’s attractive accountant. The only problem is she hates him because he reminds her of her ex-boyfriend, who’s played by Tony Orlando.

The Invention
Ed has invented training wheels for motorcycles. He and Chico try to get this invention patented, but get swindled out of $500 instead.

Too Many Crooks
When Ed takes pity on a clumsy crook (played by Joey Bishop), and gives him $20, a bunch of other crooks decide to stick-up the garage.

Season 3

Chico Packs His Bags
Tied of Ed’s rules, Chico decides to move out of the van and even quits his job. Chico rents a run-down apartment.

Morgan and the Man
A high school crush of Chico’s comes into the garage. The two start to date and he plans to pop the question. Meanwhile, Ed babysits Morgan, the young daughter to Chico’s girlfriend.

Champs Ain’t Chumps
Chico gets a chance to become a professional boxer. This worries Ed.

Chico’s Padre
Chico’s father, whom he assumed to be dead for 24 years, has tracked Chico down, visits the garage and wants him to join his successful fishing business in Mexico.

Matchmaker, Matchmaker
Della secretly sets up Ed with Peggy, a friend of hers. All is well until Ed learns it was a set up and then dumps Peggy.

Season 4

The Bed
Raul wants a bed of his own. After Ed claims his bed can be Raul’s the young boy secretly trades in the bed for two new beds, unaware that Ed kept $700 in the mattress.

A Matter of Privacy
Ed tries to teach Raul the importance of privacy but then proceeds to open a package Raul got in the mail. He’s shocked by what he finds.

The Americanization of Charo
Charo studies for and takes the American citizenship test. She passes and has a party filled with singing and dancing at the garage.

Raul Runs Away – Part 1
After Mando gives Raul a van, similar to Chico’s, the young boy decorates it with Chico’s old stuff that he found in Ed’s closet. This causes Ed to snap as he hasn’t accepted the truth about Chico’s fate.

Waiting for Chongo
A biker gang drives Monica back to the garage. However, they insist on sticking around and waiting for their leader, Chongo, holding Ed, Raul, Monica and Louie hostage in the process.
