I know the color episodes aren't the best but the opies job episode is a mess.
If you remember opies gets a job at a drug store he drops and breaks a bottle of $500(todays money) perfume ,Helens favorite, fears he will be fired,he gets arnold to buy another bottle he can replace. Where do you even begin?? opies is far too young to work I know opies not the man of the world but even he would know the broken bottle would stink up the place pretty good a small-town teachers favorite perfume cost over $500?? I doubt a small-town drugstore would sell such an expensive item. the jokes on opie because the bottle he broke only had colored water. you think someone buying something that expensive would want to smell it? arnold says he got picked on by the sales clerk when he bought the perfume, why would any salesperson do that, they would just assume he's some rich kid buying perfume for his mom. |

In hindsight, perhaps TAGS should have transitioned to Mayberry RFD after season 5 instead of limping along for 3 more seasons. Barney was gone. Gomer was gone. Floyd's health was declining. Andy was grumpy. Opie was no longer the cute little boy.

I for one am glad Andy Griffith stayed on. Ken Berry and his ensemble were okay, but very bland and forgettable compared to when Andy was still the star. In my opinion. 😃 |
