Default Here's why Eddie Haskell was such a jerk, according to Ken Osmond

https://www.metv.com/stories/heres-w...-to-ken-osmond

He wasn't just a creep for the sake of it.

Everybody knows an “Eddie.” Our neighborhood had one when I grew up, and his name just happened to be Eddie.

That’s what made Osmond’s character so effective.

The article says, one moment he was being mean to Beaver, the next moment he was being nice to June.

I can think of only a couple of times when he treated Beaver decently. Anybody know any?

^ One I recall was the ep that may have been “Eddie’s Double Cross” in s4. Eddie had a big argument with Wally after Wally overheard the girls at the drugstore soda shop, including the girl Eddie thought liked him, telling the others how much of a creep he is. Wally did his best to honestly tell him what went down. Eddie told him he didn’t believe him and (maybe) said he won’t talk to him again.

Enter the final part where Beaver is in the front yard picking bugs off of the plants. Eddie came by and told Beaver that deep down he knew Wally was right, and he asked Beaver what to do to patch things up. He even helped pick off the bugs.

Also semi-related….same season maybe….Eddie has dinner with the Cleavers. Eddie complimented Mrs Cleaver and said, “and for that nice meal, we will wash the dishes for you.” June and Ward were very thankful and went away. Beaver and Wally kinda wait to see what Eddie might have up his sleeve. But! Eddie starts running the water and soap. “C’mon guys, let’s get crackin’ here!” Beaver: “He’s really washing! I don’t believe it!” (paraphrasing)

Eddie’s serious side is always interesting to watch.

There was also one where Eddie and Wally were gonna go to a party in brand new suits. I forget who Beaver was with. Richard? Anyway Beaver spilled ink on Wally’s suit. Eddie dropped by without Wally around, and saw what happened, Beaver in hysterics. Eddie really could see that Beaver was ready to cry over it. The sympathetic Eddie meets Wally later and convinces him that it’s best they go casual.

Beaver was so surprised at Eddie’s change of heart, and told Ward that he will tell everyone what a great thing Eddie did. Not so fast, said Dad. Ward explained that Eddie is a “character”, and wouldn’t want Beaver to spoil things…or something like that.

There was also an early episode where Eddie though someone was dating his girl behind his back. Later he found out she had called Wally about a dance date..

He played like he had a sore throat, clearing the way for Wally to go with the girl to the dance.

Later everyone was out and Beaver was flattening cans in the vise, in the garage. Eddie joined him and Eddie admitted he didn't really have a sore throat. And they chatted like peers. Unusual.

There's another one where he's talking to Wally about a problem Beaver has. Anyone remember that?
