It's a staggering amount. I heard that the SF Giants offered to match that, unsuccessfully. Predictions had been $500 mil to $600 mil.
Ohtani will be roughing it for some time at $2 mil, probably have to live on stuff like PB & J.

Speaking of Japanese millionaires being paid to throw or hit a ball, the Dodgers have also given a 12yr/$325mil deal to a pitcher who hasn’t thrown one MLB pitch yet.
