Post Hi guys, I'm new here

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jabeen and I am 24 yeas old. (Oh BTW, I'm a female). The first time I actually watched CIC was when I was 16 years old!!! I never saw it before than. TBS were running the episodes and I managed to watch all of the Pembroke shows that they aired. I have not seen the show that much really since. I didn't know that the show did a huge make-over with the cast. I loved the first season! I tried to watch with the Powells but couldn't. I missed the Pembrokes too much, and plus those character got on my nereves. They just weren't relatable in any way.

I loved the bond between Charles and the family. I thought Lyla was very beautiful, she was a brunette!!! No offense to blondes, but it was nice to see a beautiful young brunette girl for once. I also loved the interaction that the Pembroke parents had with the family and eachother. It's nice to see adults taking charge being heads of their families. Mr. Pembroke was so believable in portraying the father and Mrs. Pembroke was great as a mother, and they both also had chemistry with eachother. I loved the episode where Lyla broke her trust with Charles, but I also loved the episode where Lyla was told by her parents that she couldn't wear make-up and Charles decided to take her with him to the Bruce Springsteen concert. I loved the speech Charles gave to Lyla about her face being beautiful how it was, so leave it alone. She didn't need make-up. That was the exact speech I gave myself when I was a teenager, LOL! It was such a sweet show. The theme song said it best, I wanted Charles in Charge of me too, LOl! My parents loved the first season as well, and being from an Indian cultural background, in the looks department all of the men in my family perferred Lyla as the most beautiful. The Powell girls were lovely too, but Lyla was more exotic. SHe was elegant AND innocent for her age. I believe she made an appearance on Growing Pains one time. As for me, if I saw the show when I was young, I KNOW I would have had a strong crush on Jason. He was so sweet and adorable.

I also liked the early 80s look better than the late 80s look. They were supposed to be in the East Coast and the first season gave you the feel of an East Coast culture. But when the Powells came it felt like pre-90210 or Baywatch. Again, they just tended to get on my nerves, the kids AND the adults. No offense to those who preferred the Powells.

I have lately been very nostalgic for the feel good family shows. When I was little I grew up on Diff'rent Strokes, Silver Spoons, Happy Days (that's hos I started with CIC. I have always loved Scott Baio), and all of those. Why is it that the family stuff never gets the success or recognition? Lately I have not been watching very much television, especially the new stuff. But last Spring I came across a new show that i tought was really wonderful called "The Fighting Fitzgeralds" and I learned last month that it was cancelled in May! TO me it felt just like CIC did. It was sweet and funny and now I couldn't see it anymore! You wouldn't believe that right on that day when I just found out that TFF was cancelled I came across the CIC episode where Jason and Jill said good-bye to Charles. That was so sad, and while I tried to watch the rest of the episode, I couldn't get into it.

Well, I'm sorry that i rambled on and on. I have been wanting to get this sitcom burden off my chest for quite sometime now. I would love to talk and share about this show, especially the Pembroke episodes. There are others who liked them as much as I did here, arn't there? Well, thanks for reading guys, and have a great day.

Howdy, Jabeen, and welcome!!! ^_^

More power to ya for likin' the Pembroke eps. I prefer the Powells, though I will agree with you that the plots of the Pembroke episodes were terrific!!! . . .

New question: What about Buddy? Do you like him better in the first season or when he acted like a moron? Hehe . . . The latter for me; I've always luved goofy, off-the-wall characters

Hi Lucky,

I have really always liked Buddy. But I preferred him better in the first season simply becuase he was so slick in contrast to Charles and seeing a guy like that around young kids makes for very interesting watching. The goofy Buddy I had a tendancy to feel sorry for him most of the time, LOL!

Welcome! You have so come to the right place! I am absolutely in love with the Pembroke season! I agree with everything you said. The Pembroke family definitely touches every emotion there is to touch, and it still remains light and cheerful. I am so glad to find another person who loves the Pembrokes as much as I do. I don't know if you saw, but I have a site almost fully dedicated to the Pembrokes. If you want, come check it out. It's got videos, like the one where Charles and Lila talk about trust and then they hug. Also, the one where Stan yells at Charles. There's some more with Lila, and there's also a lot with Jason because he was my favorite. I also have a lot of pictures there, so come on over and check it out! The address is http://www.geocities.com/mikepearlmancrazy

Thanks! Jill

P.S.- The site works best with Internet Explorer.

Dear Jill,
I visted your site just now and all I have to say is, WOW! You are a very talented young person and I am very impressed. I love your site! Thank you creating such a beautiful dedication to the Pembroke season. I can't thank you enough for it. I would have probably made a website too but there was no internet when I was your age, LOL!

I also just found out some interesting bit of info. "The Fighting Fitzgeralds" which was my new favorite show but got cancelled, one of its Executive producer was James Widdeos! That was neat to learn! I felt that TFFs had a similar feel to what CIC was like in its first season and when I found out that Mr. Pembroke directed AND co-produced it that sort of put it together for me! I just wished that the goons from NBC didn't cancel it. Gee, what does it take for a sweet and feel good show to make it in this business?
