Default Did Pa Ingalls Ever Have A “Bad Hair Day”?

Whenever I turn on COZI-TV to watch an episode of LHOTP, regardless of however dire and threatening the situation facing the Ingalls family is, Pa Charles Ingalls always seem to be a man of great self-possession and, perhaps even more importantly, a 19th century man with an absolutely perfectly-coiffed head of hair!

I mean, it’s truly amazing, how Charles remains so cool and calm in situations like outlaws holding Mary hostage or the young children getting lost in a blizzard or even the entire town of Walnut Grove being threatened by plague, yet Charles, with that full and lustrous head of hair of his, looks as if he just got a $300.00 haircut from Christophe, former President Bill Clinton’s A-list, personal hair stylist.

In fact, Alison Armgrim, who portrayed Nellie Olesen, Laura Ingalls’ perpetual nemesis and the bete noire of LHOTP, once joked that it was remarkable that the dirt-poor Charles Ingalls always looked like he had just spent a day at the spa, getting a massage, manicure and a lavish hair styling.

It had to have been very frustrating and annoying for all of the female actors on LHOTP, that Michael Landon always had a much better coiffure than any of them.

Beam me up, Vidal Sassoon!

I can answer that! Yes, he did! In the Season 4 episode "The Creeper of Walnut Grove," Laura set a trap to catch the elusive creeper by using a bucket of green dye or paint over the barn door, and poor Pa was caught by it. He was able to wash it off his skin but not his hair, showed up in church with noticeably green hair, but still perfectly styled, and the entire congregation including the minister laughed at him. The rest of the time, his ability to preserve perfect hair was phenomenal, even when wading through muck. He did get wet a few times but usually managed to avoid it.

Michael Landon produced the show and starred as Charles. If Michael Landon wanted Charles to have perfect hair no matter what situation, by gone, Charles was going to have perfect hair.

And, you know, that when the irrepressible (not to mention, all-too-annoying) Albert became part of the Ingalls family, that the little stinker would also HAVE to sport a full mop of hair, since it would be rather absurd if the boy had a short haircut while Pa Ingalls looked like singer George Michael with that massive and perfectly-coiffed head of hair of his.

PS I hope that Albert eventually became as bald as the late Richard Deacon or William Shatner, sans the bad rug.

Albert either died young, or didn't, depending on who you ask. There seems to have been a split timeline with two alternate realities respecting him.

The actor who played him, Matthew Labyorteaux, still looks great with a full head of natural hair.

I will die on the hill that Albert never died young, at least not from the events from “A Look Back to Yesterday.” We don’t see him die on screen, so I say he spontaneously recovered from aplastic anemia so he could go on to be a doctor for Walnut Grove, like Laura narrated at the end of the episode, “Just Say No on the Prairie,” er, I mean “Home Again.”

Matthew looks great to this day. I also love seeing his brother Patrick on tiktok. Very entertaining channel. I hope Matthew does a collab in the future.

I absolutely agree! Please see my thread about a write-in campaign for a sequel movie in which Albert is the town doctor. https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards...d.php?t=460817
