Question Final Episode or Movie???? HELP!?!?!?!?

I need to know something...... My husband says that he has seen an episode of Jed being interviewed after they had gone back "home to TN", after losing their money..... telling of how he had his millions & how Mr. Drysdale had "sqwandered" it all & Mr Drysdale had been put in jail. He doesn't remember whether it was a "last episode" type of show or a "special". I don't ever recall such a show.
Can anyone please tell me about this & if it does exist.... does it ever come on TV anymore??? Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this if it does??? If it does.... I WANT TO SEE IT! LOL LOL LOL
PLEASE.....any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

I think the show you're refering to was a special that CBS produced to coincide with the release of the "Beverly Hillbillies" movie that came out in 1993 (to say that film sucked would be giving the producers too much credit!!) The special revealed that Mr. Drysdale was, indeed, a crook and that Jane Hathaway turned state's evidence against him and was currently hiding out in the Witness Protection Program. It also revealed that Elly May became a veterinarian and Jethro, following in Granny's footsteps, became a mountain doctor in Beverly Hills...complete with Granny's old mountain remedies. (Jethro also revealed that his true love was...JANE HATHAWAY!!) The special also featured testimonials from celebrities like Ray Charles and Hoyt Axton. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of that special, but I know for a fact that CBS DID offer it for sale on vhs. (mind you, this was almost ten years ago, bit I'll bet if you do a search on ebay, you might have some luck!)

I believe the movie would explain it all from 1981 called "The Return of the Beverly Hillbillies." But I would like to know how the show ended. I have never seen it and would like to.

Default BH Reunion and Special

In response to your question about the final episode, there was no specifically written final episode. The series, after having run for nine years to stellar ratings and audience adoration, was unceremoniously cancelled in 1971. The last episode to air,(274) "Jethro Returns," featured Petticoat Junction's Mike Minor as con man Bremerkamp. He was ostensibly a beau of Jane Hathaways, but in reality, was after Elly May for her money. The network brass at CBS, trying to purge their rural image, axed all country oriented programming, including "Hee Haw."

In 1981, "Return of the Beverly Hillbillies" aired. On the night the film debuted, Egyptian president, Anwar Sadat, was assasinated and all the networks interrupted programming. This did not help an already weak telefilm. In the film's plot, Jed has sold his mansion and return to his old cabin in the hills. Granny has passed on as well as Mr Drysdale. Jethro runs a movie studio and Elly, non surprisingly, runs a zoo. Jane works for the government and is trying to solve the energy crisis by finding Granny's white lightning. The only person that knows where any is, is Granny's ancient "maw" played by Imogene Cocca. The film starred Buddy Ebsen, Donna Douglas, and Nancy Kulp from the original series. Also Shad Heller and Shug Fisher returned. A new Jethro was cast when Max Baer declined. "Hogan's Heroes" star Werner Klemperer played Mr Medford, Jane's government co worker, that is sent to assist Miss Hathaway in locating Granny's rheumatiz' medicin'.

While the film offered us up another chance to see some of our favorite characters, the 1993 "Legends of the Beverly Hillbillies" was a better vehicle for reuniting the cast. This time out, Buddy Ebsen, Donna Douglas, and Max Baer appeared in the special, with memories by Roy Clark. Buddy even proves still capable at dancing, during one memorable scene.

I am not sure if these are available on video anymore. I taped the 1993 special at the time, and the reunion film when it aired on TBS earlier this year.

I thought having Imogene Coca playing Granny's "ma" was rediculous. Never mind that she would have to be over 100 years old, but where was she during the nine years of the series original run? Why didn't Granny visit her or mention her-and why didn't she move out to California with them? Without Granny or Mr. Drysdale and with a fake Jethro, this is a reunion movie that should not have been made.

Cool

For what it's worth, in The Legend of the Beverly Hillbillies, Mr. Drysdale made off with Jed's money, Jane Hathaway turned state's evidence against him and was currently hiding out in the Witness Protection Program, Elly May became a veterinarian, and Jethro, following in Granny's footsteps, became a mountain doctor in Beverly Hills ... complete with Granny's old mountain remedies . There were guest appearances by Oliver and Lisa Douglas from Green Acres, Reba McIntyre, Hoyt Axton, and Ray Charles .
