Ray Stevenson was in the Thor movies? What character did he play? I didn't know that Ray Stevenson had passed away and that he was in Vikings because my mom liked that series

So Ray Stevenson was Volstagg in the Thor movies. I was confused at who Volstagg was at first? Was Volstagg Loki's father in Norse mythology? Because I know that Thor's father was Odin. This is truly a big loss for not only Marvel but also the Star Wars series because Ray was gonna be starring in the new series and so i'm wondering if they will recast Ray Stevenson's role for another replacement actor?
