The Sudden Disappearance of PBS kids Sprout

Back in late 2005 the first ever “24 hour preschool channel” (PBS kids) Sprout was launched but it was unable to stand the test time. So I looked back at the history of the channel in this video and uncovered WHERE it went and more importantly WHY.

When it was announced that PBS Kids would develop a new channel aimed at the 3-7 age range little did we know that this would be a great move in the right direction for PBS Kids to do. And so when Sprout came out as the first ever preschool 24-hour channel they knew that this was the way to attract the preschool audience. And with shows such as The Good Night Show and Thomas And Friends and many other shows Sprout was successful. But while having to share competition with Disney Junior Noggin and Baby's First TV and Nick Jr. kept Sprout on it's feet. But when Sprout changed to Universal Kids and got a new image I think they mainly wanted to attract the older kids because many of the kids were outgrowing Sprout and I think Universal had been secretly wanting to create a kids channel to go along with their theme parks and be competing with Nickelodeon and Disney Channel and Universal Kids was the perfect choice. But why I mainly Sprout failed is just like what Hasbro did to Hub Network and they tried to improve the lineup but couldn't. But I think we will soon see another channel aimed at preschoolers being made in the future because the preschool age market is growing strong in TV
