Default Favorite episodes

Today is the 36th anniversary of the original premiere of "Family Affair" and it marks a great sense of irony that the new "Family Affair" would choose today to make its premiere. My gut feeling is that it may not last 36 days. Meanwhile, there's always the old show to look back on and that's what I'll do here as I list my all-time favorite episodes in chronological order. Which ones do you like? Here are my picks:

MRS. BEASLEY, WHERE ARE YOU? (Oct. 24, 1966)

Mr. French accidentally knocks Mrs. Beasley off the balcony and Uncle Bill goes on a frantic search to find her.

THINK DEEP (Dec. 26, 1966)

Guest Star: Robert Reed ("The Brady Bunch")

Cissy develops a mad crush on her new teacher and turns the family's lives upside down by applying his teaching methods at home.

BY A WHISKER (Sept. 30, 1968)

Jody has to cut off Mr. French's whiskers in order to join an exclusive boys' club. This episode never fails to leave me in stitches.

THE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER (Oct. 21, 1968)

Guest Star: June Lockhart ("Petticoat Junction")

Jody develops a crush on his substitute teacher who looks eerily like his late mother.

CHRISTMAS CAME A LITTLE EARLY (Nov. 11, 1968)

Guest Star: Eve Plumb ("The Brady Bunch")

Buffy tries to help a terminally ill classmate enjoy her last moments. An excellent episode that I recommend for all "Family Affair" fans. The last scene, where Buffy realizes that she'll never see her friend again, is priceless. This is my favorite episode of all, followed very closely by the next one below.

THE UNSOUND OF MUSIC (Nov. 18, 1968)

A tone-deaf Buffy tries to learn to sing because she desperately wants to join her school's glee club but it's an equally tone-deaf Jody who ends up with the big solo number for the school's talent show. This is the one where Jody sings "Every Boy Can Be President" which has to be heard to be believed.

FLOWER POWER (April 17, 1969)

Guest Star: Jamie Farr

Cissy decides that she wants to become a 'weekend hippie'. Groovy, man! Jamie Farr is hilarious in his brief appearance.

WHAT"S SO FUNNY ABOUT A BROKEN LEG? (Nov. 6, 1969)

The family try to cheer Buffy up after she breaks her leg.

CLASS CLOWN (Nov. 26, 1970)

Taking a cue from Uncle Bill's latest girlfriend, who is a professional comedienne, Jody resorts to telling jokes as a way to impress his classmates. Look closely for Erin Moran ("Happy Days") in this episode.

I like the one where the twins are left alone in the apartment all night. The one w/ Eve Plumb is good too.
