Has anyone seen this Alfred Hitchcock movie, with Jerry Mathers, made two years before the start of LITB? I have. A quirky and strange black comedy/murder mystery in technicolor with beautiful Fall scenery in Vermont. Jerry has a prominent role in it as he is the first person you see in the film.

Alfred Hitchcock shows and movies were very popular in our family as a kid. I remember seeing the movie but really can't remember the plot. I remember Jerry Mathers or maybe a Ronny Howard's (pre TAGS) movie character complaining on how bosomy the lead actress was. Never saw it again but I remember one said it. Interesting if it's this movie?

Here is a trailer for the film, which will give you a great idea of the role Jerry plays in it. (Especially note his priceless line about a dead body in the bathtub!) You can see that Jerry's performance in this film must have helped him land the role of the Beaver.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8FH4eKZJ4s Shirley MacLaine, in her film debut, played Jerry's mother in the movie. Jerry also acted alongside Edmund Gwenn ("Miracle on 34th Street") and John Forsythe ("Bachelor Father"). The movie flopped in the US because audiences did not like its style of dark humor, but it was highly successful in Europe. Today it is considered one of Hitchcock's lesser-known gems. |
