Default Ricardo

I read that they had the last name Ricardo on the show is because they were freinds with Ricardo Montalban?
Does anyone know if that is true?
Was he ever on the show?

Not true, their original name was Lopez but there was a famous orchestra leader back then with that name so they changed it, but no connection to Montelban!

I'm not sure that story isn't true. I've also heard the name Ricardo was a tribute to Ricardo Montalban. I think that's what Desi said in his bio. Of course Lucy claimed the name was meant to honor her late friend, Carole Lombard because of the CAR in both names.

I might believe the one about Carole but i still refuse to believe the one about Montelban, i'll get that Desi book again and check it out. Why would Desi pay tribute top his big competition, it just seems so unbelievable!

Didn't Montalban get a role in a movie early on that Desi thought he should have gotten?

I don't know about that, but you know, Lucy competed for roles that often went to Ann Sothern, but those two were lifelong friends.

yeah, in desi's book he says that when he came back from the army, he was ready to go back to movies, but they had discovered Ricardo Montalban and were putting him in a musical comedy w/ Esther Williams that Desi had wanted the part for. i don't remembering him saying anything about why they came up w/ Ricardo in his book, but who knows, i may have overlooked it!

Maybe it wasn't in his book; I'm not absolutely sure. But I know this was stated somewhere and the comment was attributed to Desi.

Ann was one of hundreds who competed with Lucy , Desi only had a couple like Ricardo, i just dun't see him paying tribute to him, but i could be wrong, don't forget what they say Jane, lots of wrong info on the net!
