Question Lisa Beamer from 9/11

I think by now everyone knows who she is. But for those who dont, she was the woman who lost her husband Todd on Flight 93, the plane that went down in Pennsylavnia on 9/11.

Driving to work the other morning I heard on the radio that Lisa Beamer not only has a book out but a new cd too as well as a movie. Plus on top of that she ( and her lawyer ) has plans, if they havent already to copyright the words " Let's Roll". "Let's Roll" being the last words said by Todd Beamer on a phone call just before he and 3 other men tried to take over the plane ( I have actuallly heard some media report that it ws ONLY Todd Beamer who tried to take control of the plane, if Lisa Beamer wants the public to believe that then she is doing a good job . )

According to the dj, there are plans to market pins, hats, t-shirts, ect..with the words "Let's Roll/ Todd Beamer" on them. Even a "Todd Beamer" doll ( I assume you pull the string and hear the words "Lets Roll")

I understand that Lisa beamer was expecting a child at the time of her husband's death. I'm sure 9/11 was very hard on her and her family since losing a spouse/dad is never easy.

But copyrighting everyday words like Let's Roll" ( "they belong to Todd" says Lisa beamer's lawyer ) and making money off a dead spouse like t-shirts, pins, hats and stuff. I cant help but thinking to myself "this is so tacky"!!

I know many who are getting a bit tired of seeing her on tv ( she does get a lot of tv time ) and find this so tasteless.

agree/ disagree??

I've avoided Lisa Beamer's appearances and all of the other hype connected with 9-11 so I haven't seen her except for the words, "let's roll" here and there. For one minute yesterday I saw those words somewhere on television and was disgusted by the obvious sensationalism ofi it. So, I agree. If it's true what you say about her and a lawyer trying to copyright two age old words that have been paired together since the beginning of time, then they're full of crap.

Yeah, I've heard all about that stuff. It's hard for me to pass judgement on her because I don't know her heart or her motives behind doing such things. I understand her wanting to people to know about her husband. It's understandable to me that such a thing could very well be her way of grieving. However, I think she is seriously trying to take it too far. She needs to give it a rest. I mean, there were a lot of other people on that plane and I would like to think they did just as much as he did. Acutally, I've heard interviews in which the people's loved ones said they were on the phone with them and they told of plans to attack the hijackers. It sounds to me like a lot of people had a hand it. If she's doing this for publicity then I find it very disturbing. If she's doing it as a way of grieving...I don't know what to say, just that she's really pushing it and needs to give it a rest. There are so many heroes from that awful day, we can't copyright what each of them said or right books about the acts. It isn't possible...

actually she already has...

last week in USA Today , saw an ad for the Lisa/Todd Beamer cd called , what else, but "Lets Roll". And beside those words, in small print were "tm". "tm" as in trademark, just like one sees besides such words as "Burger King", Kelloggs", "Sears" and "Dr. Pepper". So I guess the words "Lets Roll" are now owned by the estate of Todd Beamer, as in Lisa. To me thats going way to far.

I agree that she should have gotten out of the public eye long ago, but I cant help but wonder, had she were not expecting a baby and wasnt as attractive, would she have gotten all the media blitz she did? I wonder uf some marketing agent saw her when she first started doing tv and figured that he ( and she ) can make tons of money. Wouldnt surprise me at all.

Back to the words "lets roll", does this mean one cant use the words unless either the name "Todd Beamer" or "Lisa Beamer" are mentioned unless they are willing to face legal troubles?
And considering the fact that when Todd Beamer uttered those famous words it was to an Untied airlines operator,( If I remember correctly ) and not to his wife, so how does Lisa Beamer really know for sure it was her husband who had the idea for taking over the plane and even said those words? Of course since the plane did go down and no one survived, no one really can say for sure.

Maybe my husband is right..Lisa beamer IS turning 9/11 into a joke.

That is ridiculous. Especially copyrighting the words "let's roll." Um, no. I understand 9/11 was probably very hard on her, but seriously...she is taking this WAY too far.

They were in a plane crash, does she just want to make money off of his death? Lets say I were to kill myself and right before I did I said BRING IT ON!! Does that mean my mom can copyright those words and write a book? This person just wants to make money off of his death, thousands of people were lost does that mean a book for each one? That isn't fair.

Is Todd Beamer the guy who has that memorial video that someone else gave a link to in another post? It was called "Little did she know" ... same guy? The link is in another post.

I think Lisa Beamer, the professional widow, has gone too far cashing in by copyrighting Let's Roll, the book, cd, the endless TV appearances and magazine articles.
From all the reports I've watched or read, Todd Beamer did not attempt the takeover on his own rather acted as one of a group.
I'll take this one step further. I don't think the victims of Flight 93 are heroes. I think they were poor souls in a terrible situation who lost their lives to terrorism. They attempted to overpower their murderers to save their lives. They were brave, no doubt, but they were trying to survive. Many make the point that the plane was headed for the White House or the Capital, and the victims saved the lives of those in the buildings.
I've yet to hear one person say, of the dozens of calls made by the passengers, that their loved ones said they were going to attack the terrorists to save those on the ground.
These people were fighting for their own lives, and who can blame them. Were they brave? No doubt. Are they heroes? Not by my definition. I say that with sincere respect.
The heroes of 9/11 were the police and firefighters who risked their lives to save others. Whether they lived or died, these were the true heroes.
