Default The News (Fan Fic)

The News (Season 2)

-Kitchen Breakfast Table-
Ward: So what are your plans for today boys?
Wally: Well, the dancers are supposed to be practicing throwing eachother up in the air at the high school...
June: Oh? Is there a girl who interests you in dance?
Wally: No, Eddie just wants to be able to see the girls do the splits in the air...
June: (looks at Ward while eating)
Wally: I just want to see somebody forget to catch them when they come down!
Beaver: Jee Wally, who wants to see a buncha dumb girls dancing around the football field?
June: Oh Beaver, I'm sure one day you'll be going to the high school to watch the dumb girls! (smiles)
Beaver: Oh no mom! Me and Larry said we'd slug eachother if we ever liked (but he says it as like + ed) a girl
June: (smiles at Ward)
Ward: Liked (says it correctedly) a girl...
Beaver: That's what I said...
Ward: Well what are you going to do with your Saturday Beaver?
Beaver: Me and Larry are gonna go and take stuff out his garage and try to sell it for money, Larry says that there's a new candy at the drug store and we wanna buy some!
Ward: Oh i see. Did Mrs. Mondello say it was okay?
Beaver: No, but Larry says we don't have to cuz it's all stuff that his father told him to throw out a long time ago!
June: Beaver, I thought you had a paragraph due on Monday.
Beaver: I do, but today's Saturday
Ward: Have you started it?
Beaver: Jee no dad! Why would I do that? It's not dur for another two whole days!
Ward: Alright Beaver. You just make sure youre home early to start working on that paragraph! (says demandingly)
Beaver: Yes sir! (respectfully)
Wally: May I be excused? I gotta meet Eddie down at the High School...
June: Sure Wally.
Wally: (gets up with his plate and puts it by the sink)
Beaver: Me too mom??
June: Yes Beaver.
Beaver: (gets up but leaves his plate there) I'm going to Larry's to claim all the good junk before he does!
Ward: Remember your paragraph Beaver!
Beaver: Yes Sir! (leaves)
Wally: I'll see you later (leaves as well)
June: (gets up and takes the plate that Beaver left behind along with hers) What are you doing today Ward?
Ward: (gets up with his plate) I don't know (hands his plate to June) I thought about trimming the hedges, but then the hedges will look so good that I'll have to mow the lawn! (goes back to the table to bring some dishes back to the sink)
June: (smiles) Well maybe you can-
*Telephone Rings*
Ward: I'll get it (hands the rest of the dishes to June and then walks into the living room to get the phone)

-Living Room-
Ward: (picks up the phone) Hello? ... Oh yes she is, just a second (yells) June?! Oh June!?!
June: (comes in whiping her hands with a dish towel) Yes ward?
Ward: Telephone for you.
June: Oh. (walks towards Ward and reaches to grab the phone from Ward)
Ward: It's Dr. Stevens...
June: (confused look) Oh?
Ward: (hands the phone to her)
June: (takes the phone) Hello? ... Why hello Dr. Stevens ... Why it's quite alright, we had just finished breakfast. Is anything wrong? ... Good, I'm glad that everythings fine ...
Ward: (listening in on the conversation in a worried concern)
June: Well yes Dr., I remember ... (all of a sudden her face looks slightly shocked and she pauses for a long time)
Ward: June?? (troubled)
June: (talking to the Dr.) Yes Dr., I'm still here ... Yes, I am just a little shocked, I- (starts to smile a little as well) Yes, well thank you Dr. ... good bye (slowly hangs up the phone with a slight smile on her face and she is kind of thinking, but then she puts on a straight face and turns around to face Ward)
Ward: June! (impatient and worried tone in his voice as he escorts June to sit beside him on the sofa) What was that all about?
June: It was Dr. Stevens.
Ward: Well yes dear, I know that! What did he want?
June: He was just informing me about my check-up from last week.
Ward: And? (still impatient and conserned)
June: (slightly laughs at Wards worrieness) Oh Ward (kindly) I'm perfectly fine! (gets up and walks towards the table with the phone on it)
Ward: Well thank God for that (walks over to June and puts his hands on her shoulders)
June: Ward... (Pauses and then says rather quickly while turning around to face him at the same time) I'm going to have a baby... (smiles up at him)
Ward: (after a moment of silence and after June's smile had faded slightly) A What?? (Kind of an angry yet shocked voice and puts his hands in his pants pockets)
June: (laughs again) Oh Ward (softly) You heard me (puts her hands/arms through his arms and sort of hugs/hangs onto him)
Ward: I heard you, I just don't know what to say, I... (stops mid sentence in a somewhat perpenatative yet happy manner)
June: (in a hopeful way) Say you're happy! (Smiles at Ward)
Ward: Well of course I am June! (hugs her sweetly) I just was starting to look forward to the boys both being grown up and out of high school.
June: Are you a little upset?
Ward: Of course not dear! This is some exciting news, I could never spoil it by being upset! (smiles back at her)
June: Oh Ward! (kisses him) What should we tell the boys?
Ward: We'll just have to be honest with them.
June: I don't think Beaver will be too happy. (A little worried)
Ward: Well, we should expect that, Wally wasn't very thrilled when we told him about Beaver.
June: Remember when we brought Beaver home from the hospital?
Ward: (smiles in remembrance) Yes, we let Wally hold him and he almost dropped him. (laughs a little)
June: You know Ward, Wally was just a few years younger than Beaver is right now when Beaver was born.
Ward: And for some reason the boy still could not pronounce Theodore...
June: (laughs and then lets go of Ward and starts to walk towards the kitchen)
Ward: June, where are you going?
June: To the kitchen! (pauses) When I'm excited, I bake!! (Smiles at Ward and then goes into the kitchen)
Ward: (smiles at June's remark and then grabs the news paper and sits to read it. He then looks up from the paper smiling and thinking about the new baby)

There's the begingin, this will probably take 3-5 more posts, please let me know what you think of it so far. I'm very unsure of how it is, it seems so... bad to me!

You sure you weren't a writer back in the sixties on LTB? It sounds exactly like the old show. Perfect.

here's part 2

(Part 2)

-Kitchen-
June: (finishing up some dishes that she used to prepare dinner)
Wally: (enters from the back door) Hi mom (goes to the fridge and opens it)
June: Wally, dinner is going to be in a half an hour!
Wally: Well gee mom! I'm hungry!!
June: (sternly) Wally...
Wally: (closes the fride) Okay mom (starts to leave)
June: (remembers) Oh yes, Wally!
Wally: Yea mom?
June: You make sure you're around after dinner, your father and I want to talk to you.
Wally: Sure mom! (leaves)
June: (goes back to her dishes and hums a tune to herself)
Beaver: (walks in) Hi mom
June: Hi Beaver (goes back to humming)
Beaver: Gee mom, why are you humming?
June: Becuase it makes me feel happy...
Beaver: Gee, I didn't know a mom had to feel happy while doing the dishes
June: Well, sometimes mom's just hum because they're happy about something else
Beaver: Oh (thinks) So then why are you humming?
June: (laughs a little) Oh Beaver, make sure you stick around after dinner, your father and I want to talk to you.
Beaver: oh sure mom! Larry's mom came out and yelled at him for not asking if we could sell the junk. So Larry can't do anything tonight.
June: We told you to ask Mrs. Mondello.
Beaver: Well how were we supposed to know she was gonna get upset on the counta we're selling her junk!
June: I guess. You better get upstairs and start on that paragraph before your father discovers that you are procrastinating!
Beaver: Mom, what's procrastinating?
June: It's when you don't do something becuase you don't want to
Beaver: Oh, I do that all the time!
June: (smiles) if you go start your paragraph i'll bring you a sandwhich and milk
Beaver: Okay mom! (leaves)
June: (smiles and then goes back to dishes)
Ward: (comes in the opposite door that beaver had left through, walks up behind june and kinda hugs her, scaring her)
June: Oh! Ward! You scared me! (smiles and continues with the dishes)
Ward: I'm sorry dear (still kinda hugging her) did beaver come home yet?
June: Yes, he's upstairs finishing his paragraph, i thought i'd bring him a sandwhich (turns around to face ward)
Ward: Well, maybe you shouldn't with it being so close to dinner.
June: Perhaps you're right.
Ward: I was thinking that maybe we should go up and tell the boys about the news right now.
June: Oh Ward, i told them that we needed to talk to them after dinner. I thought we could tell them then.
Ward: Okay dear, I just hope the boys are okay with everything, I remember Wally was pretty upset with Beaver!
June: (turns back around to grab a dish and then dries it while facing ward) They don't really have much of a choice! (half smiles)
Ward: (grabs a dish and helps) I guess your right! (smiles back)

-Boys' Bedroom-
Beaver: (walks in) Hey Wally!
Wally: (lying on his bed reading a comic book) Hey Beav...
Beaver: Did mom talk to you about talking to us after dinner?
Wally: Yea, she told ya that?
Beaver: Yea (Pauses) Gee Wally, we didn't do anything!
Wally: Yea, I know! (bummed)
Beaver: So, if we didn't do anything then how come they wanna talk to us after dinner?
Wally: I dunno Beav! Usually if they wanna talk to you before dinner, Dad's gonna give you a lecture. If they wanna talk to you during dinner, Dad's gonna tell ya a story so that you learn your lesson!
Beaver: Yea...
Wally: But heck! They never wanted to talk to us AFTER dinner!
Beaver: Yea, we musta done somethgn really bad this time wally!
Wally: Yea...

-Dinner-
Everyone: (quiet)
Ward: Well, aren't we a little quiet tonight?
Wally: Gee Dad, I dunno, are we?
Ward: Yes, you certainly are! (tries to make conversation) So Beaver, how's your paragraph comming?
Beaver: Good Dad! Can you read it later?
Ward: Sure.
Beaver: Wally helped me with the spelling, so if it's wrong, it's his fault!
Ward: (smiles)
June: So how was the dancers Wally?
Wally: Wouldntchya know that they never forgot to catch one!
Ward: Well, I'd imagine they're pretty good!
Wally: Yea, Eddie was just enjoying the girls, but they all glared at him!
June: (smiles)
Wally: Yea, this girl name Jennifer came and started talking to me, she's pretty neat for a dancer!
June: Well that's nice Wally, is she in your grade?
Wally: Gee no mom! She's a sophmore!
June: Oh... (acts as if she should have known)
Ward: Well boys, why don't you bring your plates into the kitchen and get your desserts
Beaver: Sure mom (gets up)
Wally: Okay (gets up as well and they both leave)
June: (goes over and sits in wally's chair while talking to ward) When should we tell them?
Ward: How about right now? We'll bring our desserts into the living room
June: Yes dear! You know, it's going to be very different having another chair at the table (kind of looks at the table)
Ward: Yes, we'll have to fin where we put the old high-
Wally and Beaver: (walk in)
Ward: (quiets when he sees them walking in)
Wally: Gee mom, you're in my chair (hands her her dessert)
June: Well your father thought we could eat our desserts in the living room (takes the dessert from Wally)
Beaver: (hands ward his dessert) Gee Dad, we didn't do anything wrong for you to yell at us for!
Ward: (takes the dessert and cuckles at Beavers remark) No Beaver, we're not going to yell at you boys, we just have some big news we want to share with you!
Wally: Are we moving again?
June: No Wally, let's all just go into the living room (gets up)
Wally: Okay mom (walks into the living room)
Beaver: (follows Wally)
June: (smiles as Ward escorts her into the living room)

-Living Room-
Wally and Beaver: (sit on the couch)
June and Ward: (set their desserts on the table and stand kind of by the fire place)
Everyone: (silent)
Beaver: Well, what is it?
Ward: Well, your mother had a phone call from her doctor today.
Wally: Gee mom, are you okay?
June: Yes Wally, there's nothing wrong, he just wanted to tell me something
Beaver: What?
June: Well, ward?
Ward: Well, your mother and I, actually your mother is... (pausing and tryign to figure out how to tell them) going to have a baby.
Wally: A baby!!!
Beaver: (kind of sits there)
Wally: Heck dad! what'd you go and do that for! (stands up)
Ward: Wally...
Wally: (goes off in the deep end) It's bad enough when i had to start sharing my stuff with the Beav, now i'm gonna have to share it with another guy!
June: Wally! You and the Beaver get along so well together.
Wally: Heck, having a little brother is the pits!
Ward: Are you through? (sternly)
Wally: (thinks for a little bit) Yes Sir! (sits back down)
June: (looks at Ward in a worried manner then looks at Beaver) Beaver? Are you okay?
Beaver: Yes mom (looking at the floor)
June: then what's wrong
Beaver: I just don't know if i want a little brother!
June: Well you might have a little sister... (being sympathetic)
Beaver: that's even worse, i'd have a girl for a sister!
Ward: (smiles) that's usually the way it works
Beaver: (thinks) Well, if you hafta, I guess.
June: Beaver! It will be tons of fun! Look at all of the fun you have with Wally!
Beaver: (looks at Wally who's really down about everything) Yea, I guess...
June: Good! (hugs beaver)
Beaver: Gee mom, when will I be getting a sister?
June: It could be a brother, and probably in October...
Beaver: Oh, so not for a while huh?
Ward: Don't worry Beaver! (taps him on his knee) Why don't you go get your paragraph and we'll go over it okay?
Beaver: Okay Dad! (gets up and goes upstairs)
Wally: (gets up to leave as well)
Ward: Wait a minute Wally (kind of steps infront of him)
Wally: (stops)
Ward: We need to discuss your attitude about this!
June: Your fathers right! You need to be understanding for your brother!
Wally: Yes mom, may I be excused now? (kind of upset)
Ward: Yes wally!
wally: (leaves)
June: I'm worried about him!
Ward: Me too...

that'll end it for part 2!

Sounds even better with part 2. I can't wait to read part 3. This really does sound like an episode of Beaver by the way you are writing it. You've got the characters down perfectly!

I'm enjoying it too. You seem to have an excellent grasp of the characters. The dialogue sounds like a real episode. It's really good and I'm looking forward to the next installment.

EEEK!! Haha, the willful Part 2, i'm not too sure on this part, but it'll probably get better with part 4, i'll make part 4 extra long so that part 5 will end it!

(Part 3)

-Living Room-
Beaver and Ward: (working on his paragraph together)
June: (sitting in a chair reading a magazine)
Beaver: (reads chopily) And then there wased a new president-
Ward: -was...
Beaver: Huh?
Ward: And then there WAS a new president
Beaver: Oh! (writes down the correction)
June: (looks up from magazine and smiles at Ward)
Beaver: He was good at being president and he knew-
*Door Bell Rings*
June: I'll get it. (Brings magazine with her to the door)
Beaver: What he had to do to be a good president (Keeps reading in the back ground)
June: (Opens the door after fixing her hair with her hand and tugging on her dress)
Eddie: (standing at the door) Hello Mrs. Cleaver! (courteously)
June: Hello Eddie (Trying to be nice)
Eddie: That's a lovely dress you're wearing today Mrs. Cleaver!
June: Why thank you Eddie! (gives him a small smile)
Eddie: I believe my grandmother has a dress just like it!
June: (looses the smile)
Eddie: Is Wallace home?
Wally: (comes down the stairs) Hey Eddie!
June: Wally, I thought we told you to stick around after dinner?
Wally: Well gee mom, it's after dinner!
June: (gives a stern look to wally)
Wally: well i forgot that he was comming over tonight.
June: Well (thinks about it) Thats alright. Come on in Eddie. (having to let's him in and shuts the door behind him)
Eddie: (comes in) Thank you Mrs. Cleaver!
Wally: Common, let's go upstairs and listen to some records (Goes upstairs)
Eddie: It was nice talking to you Mrs. Cleaver (Follows Wally up the stairs)
June: (scoffing) You too Eddie! (walks into the Living Room)
Beaver: Gee Dad, are we done fixing up the paragraph yet? (impatient)
Ward: Yes Beaver (small toned) You may go upstairs
Beaver: Gee thanks dad! (leaves)
June: (sits near ward on the couch) How do you like that? Eddie telling me that I'm wearing a grandmother's dress!
Ward: Common Dear! You don't look a day over 30! (half kidding)
June: (hits ward with her magazine)

-Boys' Bedroom-
Eddie and Wally: (standing by a table where a record player is)
Beaver: (comes in) Hey Eddie, Hey Wally! (sits on his bed)
Eddie: Hey squirt! Whataya doing up here prying in OUR business!
Wally: Common Eddie! Lay off it will ya!
Eddie: I'm just preparing him for the real world!
Beaver: You know Eddie, one of these days i'm gonna slug ya one!
Eddie: (laughs) Sure kid!
Beaver: Hey Wally, did ya tell Eddie about mom?
Wally: No, why should I?
Eddie: What? is she divorsing your dad?
Beaver: No, she's gonna have a baby!
Eddie: (chuckles) A baby huh??
Beaver: Yea, it's gonna be real neat! I'll teach him baseball, football, and even maybe basketball!
Eddie: It's gonna be neat!?!? (shocked) Listen kid! You're gonna hate him!
Beaver: Why?
Eddie: Cuz, Wally's gonna be the oldest, and the new kids gonna be the youngest, so they'll get all the attention!
Wally: Cut it out Eddie!
