Default Celebrating 9/11?

What is up with airing things ALL day about 9-11 tommorrow? It would be wonderful if it was all day prgramming about people who died in the catostraphe but what is the point in recapping the events? Counting down minutes until the first one hit? And the second? Why sit in front of the tv all day to talk about why whoever did it to us, did it and what we should do to them? But mainly why talk about one of the worst things to happen to us in a long time all day long? To celebrate that it happened? That's what it comes across as to me. Is anyone really going to be glued to the tv all day tommorrow and if you are why? Those are my thoughts. I'd rather go on with my everyday life and think of those who died in my heart. Not try to remember the exact minute they could of died.

Also Kelly Clarkson from American Idol is going to be singing the National Anthem at some place tommorrow... thats America for ya. They'll use a catostraphe that killed thousands to try and plug an uprising singing star!

I aggree, And it's sad to say but I think the reason why these networks are airing all this stuff is for $$$ , Thats all they care about is making money. Persoanlly, I think there just needs to be closure and an end to the pain....

(I'm probably going to get chewed for saying the following)

Ok I look at it this way. I, personally, do not care about the buildings themselves. Yes, they were part of America, yes, they were under an act of terrorists, yes they are obviously irreparable now, but they are buildings. They can be replaced.

The people who died in them cannot be replaced. Their lives were taken from this world, and they are never coming back. You cannot rebuild them, replace them, or bring them back like you can with buildings.

Does anyone see my point? I'd rather sit in class all day watching something in memorial to the people who died, not watching the whole damn events happen all over again. It's like the Ghost from September Past. You turned on the TV on September 11, 2001 and what did you see? You saw planes crashing into buildings. You will turn on the TV on September 11, 2002, and what will you see? Planes crashing into buildings. And I have news for you, folks. For the rest of the September 11's to come, you will always see planes crashing into buildings.

I know this ordeal means a lot to everyone, but don't you think we should put the visual parts behind us? I.E. I've been seeing what I saw last year everywhere, especially in my dreams. I'd wake up drenched in cold sweat. A million other Americans have also seen this in their dreams. No one needs reminding of what September 11, 2001 looked like. We all know by now.

My message out of this wasn't to forget it- of course not. Obviously, we cannot forget. And we never will.

I agree with you. It would be like recapping the events of the 2nd world war every November 11th. I think everyone should just put aside a few minutes of their day for a moment of silence to remember the people who died. Recapping the events would be pointless, since we can't change the past. We were talking about this in my school last week and not many people are looking forward to the recapping of events on tv. We all feel bad for what happened, but mourning won't change the events that happened on that day.

It's a difficult thing to really criticize. I hear where you'recoming from, but this will be the first anniversary of 9/11. It won't be like this every year, but I'll let all this hoopla slide because it is still fresh in everyone's memory. Believe it or not there are some people who want to see and relive those tragic moments.

As for me, I'm attendinga memorial service for my cousin who died on that day, so I won't be glued to my television.

The first day was the hardest day and the first night was the worst. I was scared out of my mind. I dont think I slept for a week. I remember those days all too well. Do I really want or need to see these images displayed on my television screen over and over again, 24 hours straight?? No, but I do realize that the heroes of 9-11 do need to be recognized. It's really too bad that the people behind the scenes on these television stations need to make this out to be a big advertising campaign.

Too much publicity. Waaaay too much. I mean, come on, tomorrow night is SUPPOSED to be the best night ever (Frasier, Inside Frasier, E! True Hollywood Story: Cheers, Celebrity Profile: Kelsey Grammer, Cheers, and The Caroline Rhea Show with Bebe Neuwirth) and it's probably going to be pre-empted. What a load of crap. They are making such a big deal, and that's EXACTLY what Bin Laden wants.

Listen to what I said in the car, mocking out Bin Laden.

"I have to go online to check my email! I have a friend. Oh look, I have 27 emails from my friend. He says I should hide. He says I should go away. He is not my friend anymore."

Of course, it was 11 p.m. and I was half asleep, so yeah....

Thank you Kayla. I was going to say the exact same thing. We were just talking about this in school yesterday. We, as children of America, do not need to see these images on TV again. They have been showing these damn images of the planes crashing into the buildings for weeks after the attack. As Karly said, the buildings can be replaced, bu the people can't. They'll never be able to see their family again. But, their always with you, in some way.

Then again, I do think we might need to me reminded of what horrible events can take place in this world. The US is all about freedom;liberty. It just shows you, you're never really safe. Did those people know they were never going to come back home? No.

I think the media has been getting wy too much mileage off this for the past year. Theres nothing wrong with a little program on the morning of the one year mark, or a ceromony or something, but its crazy! The last few days have been nothing but 911 this, 911 that, not to sound totally heartless but get over it!!! Reminding everyone of it until all the pain is back is the worst thing they can do.
A few years ago my friend died in a train accident- while that may not seem like much compared to a national tragedy- i remember the way the newspaper articles and tv crap made me feel- multiply that by 100 and I figure thats the families who are having to watch CNN make millions off their loved ones death.

Also, is anyone else upset by the HUGE amounts of patriotic merchandise. Red, white, and blue everything, flag clothes, i even saw "dancing new york fireman bears" the other day. I just find that really sad....

Yeah, sorry, but that's just too much. 9-11 ALL day? Why are they choosing to dwell on these things??? It was a shock at first but now...let's just move on with our lives. Unfortunately these things happen and as big of a deal as it was, we have to put it behind us and move on. No more dwelling on the sad stuff all day. I agree it would be a nice time to remember the people we lost, though, I pretty much ditto what Karli said.

It's all the media. I'll probably gte smashed for this, but I would have rather have a simple memorial type day, where they don't show the footage of teh attacks, but about teh city. How stong it is and how it's going to do in the future. I mean who want's to see the planes hit the towers and seeing people on the streets screming and running for theor lives. I'd be sad the whole day. I mean I expect to be sad, not to see the planes hot the towers over and over again like last year, but as a nice memorial service at ground zero. HAve a couple minutes of silence. But as briandamage said, it's just the first year.

Ah...I forgot to mention this earlier. A school in our city gets out of school tomorrow because of its being 9-11. Does anyone else get out of school because of it?? I mean, come on! We dont get out to remember Pearl Harbor Day, but we do to remember this. I know that it's the one year anniversary, so maybe that's why, but still.

We're not celebrating 9-11, we're remembering. I can admit that the media is going a little overboard, but it's the first year ann. and it's acceptable. I believe that some people just don't believe how important that day was. I think you probaly had to have lost somebody to see what the big idea is.
