My God, I don't blame Savannah for being insulted by JJ's painting of her. That woman in the painting was a VERY ugly woman, no wonder Savannah was SHOCKED!

Even the Audience was SHOCKED! JJ saying something like,"I wanted to paint your hard lines," didn't help at all. I don't blame Savannah for wanting to hit JJ with her purse!

"If this purse didn't cost me $150, I'd go upside your head with it!" Raises purse while JJ cowers.

But seriously, JJ made Savannah look shockingly ugly in that painting. The woman in that painting looked SCARY!

The woman had a hard scowl in the painting, maybe if she was happily smiling it would look good.

On a side note, a Good Times Fan said something like,"JJ's birthday painting of Willona was basically a replica of Savannah's painting. How lazy was Good Times Staff?" Another Fan replied something like,"Not really. Willona's painting looked pretty. Savannah's painting looked like a scowling cat!"

JJ paintings (Ernie Barnes) have different style of paintings and if you look at JJ's other paintings, the humans figures don't have a true human form with long legs and animated posture. So Savannah Jones portrait painting probably had the same style.

In the painting you provided, I can actually see John Amos as an animated figure, it's uncanny. The rest of the characters, you can see who they are supposed to be, the woman with the headscarf is Florida, the girl with the flirty pose is Thelma, the woman with the indignant and proud scowl is Willona, the boy with the serious expression and holding a paint palette is JJ, the boy with the black panther fist is Michael, but the man sitting in the chair and smiling is a painting of John Amos himself. The James character is the only one to actually be a painting of the Actress or Actors.

This technique is used in the final Season when they painted the Actors and Actresses and then morphed the painting into a real live shot of the cast.
