Default Is this humble bragging or just stating facts?

So, I was reading a story where the Protagonist gets a bad vibe at a Restaurant from a guy who was wearing a fancy suit, wearing a Rolex and talking on the phone about how incredibly wealthy he was. He was ordering a ton of food and ordering expensive wine. His bill came to $150. The Protagonist told the Waitress, I have a bad feeling about that guy. He seems sketchy. The Waitress was like,"He's wearing a fancy suit and wearing a Rolex and is talking about how wealthy he is. He seems wealthy to me. But thanks for looking out for me." The "Wealthy," diner gave the Waitress a $100,000 tip on top of the $150 bill... On his credit card. He ran for the door when she went to run his credit card. The Protagonist chased him and put him in a headlock and dragged him back to the table. The Waitress came back and said the credit card was declined and was shocked to see the Protagonist having a headlock around the Diner. The Diner admitted the credit card was stolen and the Police were called and the Diner was arrested.

On Social Media, people were wondering how the Protagonist knew the Diner was going to try to dine and dash. The Protagonist replied something like,"I knew the Diner was going to try to dine and dash because he was bragging about how wealthy he was. My Band is the wealthiest band in the world and we don't brag about how wealthy we are. So I knew the Diner was shady."

The response was,"You just did a humble brag."

The Protagonist asked,"What's a humble brag?"

The response was a humble brag is you saying your band is the wealthiest band in the world, but you guys don't brag about how wealthy you guys are."

The Protagonist replied,"I wasn't humble bragging. I was matter of factly stating a fact about my band "

So, is what the Protagonist did a humble brag, or is it just matter of factly stating a fact about his band?

I'll toss out a comment on this. I don't see why he had to say they were the wealthiest band. All he had to say was when people brag sometimes that's a clue they are not as good or as wealthy or as whatever as they say they are. He didn't really need to say he was wealthy.

Hmm. I can see both points. I guess The Protagonist should have said something like,"Wealthy People don't BRAG about how wealthy they are," even though his band is the wealthiest band in the world (Roughly worth 3 BILLION ) and they don't brag about how wealthy they are. The Protagonist is a bit off sometimes, like saying,"I plead the fifth COMMANDMENT at a Court Case. And when his Band was being mocked for being slightly irrelevant, he said something like,"My band is good as gold, in fact, they're better than gold, they're bronze, which is better than gold! (He was the MANAGER of the Band, and soon after became PART of the Band) His quote went viral and gave new life to his rapidly fading Band and got them back on track His quote was even featured on the news, and referenced on SNL! A metals expert on the news said something like,"Actually the "Bronze is better than gold," comment isn't all that crazy sounding. Bronze is HARD. Gold is SOFT." The metals expert was implying that maybe the Protagonist was trying to say that his Band was tougher than gold, which makes sense.

The Protagonist is smart, REALLY smart(He stopped his band from working for a shady Record Label as a prime example)but is a bit socially awkward, he didn't know what a selfie, Covid, going viral on YouTube, being cancelled, and humble bragging was... In 2022.... He had time traveled from 1987 to 2022, so he wasn't up to date with 2022's terms yet. So, he didn't understand how saying,"My band is the wealthiest band in the world, but we don't brag about how wealthy we are," could come across as humble bragging.
