Default Stan Laurel's thoughts on The Honeymooners

The official Laurel & Hardy website has a section called "Ask Lois," where fans can ask Stan's daughter, Lois, questions about her father and Oliver Hardy. Here's an interesting question she answered regarding The Honeymooners back in February of 2010:
Quote:
Big fan of Laurel & Hardy. Did your father ever see or talk about "The Honeymooners"? Jackie Gleason and Art Carney had to have been influenced by L&H. Did your father ever meet them? What was his thoughts on "The Honeymooners"?

Ryan Mooney (Staten Island, NY )

Lois replies, "My father loved THE HONEYMOONERS, but honestly, I know he was never for anyone impersonating them. I do not know if he ever met Gleason or Carney. They lived in New York, and he was here in Los Angeles."

According to "The Official Dick Van Dyke Show Book" Stan was extremely complimentary about the Laurel and Hardy impression Dick Van Dyke and guest star Henry Calvin did in the DVDS episode "The Sam Pomerantz Scandals".

It's great to know that Stan's daughter, Lois, takes the time to answers questions about her father. She definitely provides some great details.

Movie

In John McCabe's book Mr. Laurel & Mr. Hardy (1968), he lists some of the other comedians and performers Stan liked:

Oliver Hardy--"So terribly funny. He can still make me laugh like crazy after all these years."
Charlie Chaplin--"Just the greatest."
Billy Gilbert--"One of the top rank. I wonder why more people didn't know that?"
Jack Benny--"A real craftsman. He knows what consistent comedy characterization is. The only criticism I have to offer is that once in awhile he holds his laughs too long. He milks those 'holds' on occasion and he shouldn't."
Jerry Lewis--"He keeps imitating himself, but he has much talent and I think in time he will do first rate comedy. I hope so. But he's going to have to learn artistic discipline."
Dick Van Dyke--"If ever they do a film of my life--and I hope they won't--I'd like Dick to play me. He's one of the very, very few comedians around who knows how to use his body for real comedy."
James Finlayson--"He could just lift that eyebrow, and I'd break up."
Harold Lloyd--"He hardly ever made me laugh but I admire his inventiveness. A smart comedian. The best of the straight comedians."

When it comes to comedy Stan had great taste! And a great eye for talent!
