Recently at work during lunch a topic came up about how the only reason Mike Meyers had a career was due to having proper supporting cast and if he hadn't the cast he had in Wayen's World his career would've been like Dane Cook. When he didn't have talented people like Dana Carvey or Eddie Murphy to play off of or executives to reign him in he wasn't able to carry films on his own as seen in bombs like the live action Cat in the Hat and the Love Guru.
I was thinking that Andy Griffith had a similar problem with Mike Meyers. Without proper supporting characters and guidance from people like Aaron Reuben he wasn't able to keep things going on his own hence why his attempts at films and moving on from TAGS didn't work out; he didn't have the talent of people like Don Knotts, Jim Nabors, Howard McNear and Hal Smith to play off of he couldn't keep the magic going and attempts to replace them with Jack Dodson (best of the bunch) Paul Hartman qnd Jerry Van Dyke didn't work out. |

Andy Griffith's resume speaks for itself. Comedy, and singing albums. Starring in numerous movies. In the brain trust and starring in two long running TV shows. Keeping TAGS watchable after the brilliant Don Knotts left. AG was far from a one trick pony like somebody like a Kevin James in King of Queens.

How insulting comparing Andy Griffith to icky Mike Meyers.
Andy Griffith didn't have the supporting cast of his sitcom on Matlock, he certainly carried that show. And while Don Knotts was great as Barney Fife, he had a bunch of flop movies.

What syndrome? Myers created two very successful characters, and had successful films centered on those characters.
Griffith had two very successful TV series. Failure is part of the business, it's very difficult to accomplish what Myers and Griffith accomplished. |
