"The Floor" Renewed for Seasons 2 & 3 at Fox; Rob Lowe Strikes First-Look Deal with Network

Fox is tripling down on "The Floor". The network has handed the Rob Lowe-hosted and produced game show a second and third season after its first season performed well for the network and was spoofed on SNL.

The news comes ahead of Fox’s Upfront, which is being held in New York tomorrow.

Separately, the network has struck a first-look deal with Lowe, who will develop unscripted series to be produced by Fox Alternative Entertainment.

“Fans loved the first season of The Floor so much that we’ve ordered two more seasons of this breakthrough game show with plans already underway to make our epic battle of the brains even bigger and bolder,” said Michael Thorn, President of the Fox Television Network.

“It’s also been a massive win to have a huge star like Rob Lowe as our host, and both our viewers and competitors can’t wait to see him back in action.”

“I couldn’t be happier with The Floor phenomenon and the opportunity to create more unscripted projects with my partners at Fox,” added Lowe.

It’s time for Rob Lowe to hit “The Floor” again. The fourth season of his trivia challenge debuts on Fox Wednesday with a few new twists, including a USA-themed competition and a chance to really screw with your fellow competitors.

“The stakes are bigger and we have a couple of new wrinkles to the game that I think are super, super cool,” Lowe told Variety. “First of all, this year we’re playing state against state, so every state and country is represented, which is really fun. I was born in Virginia, raised in Ohio, lived my whole life in California, so I was rooting for those three states. That was fun. But we also have a category swap.

Now if you win three rounds in a row, you could look out on The Floor and go, ‘I want your category,’ steal someone’s category, and then they have to play yours.”

Fox has renewed the primetime game show "The Floor", hosted by Rob Lowe, for two more seasons (6-7), TVLine has confirmed. (The Ankler first reported the news.)

"From day one, 'The Floor' has fit the very definition of Fox's bold, high-energy approach to entertainment, becoming a true fan favorite and TV's No. 1 game show," Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told The Ankler in a statement.
