Default Why was the character "Lana" taken off Three's Company after 11 episodes?

I felt the Lana character was not a bad character at all but maybe a little too old to be chasing after Jack. But ihave two questions-Why was that particular character added to the show and why was she removed from the show too fast.

I think Lana was added to fill the void left by Audra Lindley's departure to do The Ropers.

Ann Wedgeworth noticed after a few episodes that her characters' air time was becoming shorter and shorter, and that Lana was always doing the same thing: running into the apartment, flirting with Jack, putting down RF, then leaving. Ann went to the producers about it and said that if they didn't improve the character then they could let her out of her contract. They promised her they would make the chararcter better, but two weeks later she was let go from the show because the writers just didn't know what to do with her character.

So if she was added to fill the void let by Audra Lindley, that means her and Mr. Furley shoukld have been together. She wasn't that far behind Mr. Furley in age so It could have worked-It was obvious though that she was made over to look younger so that she wouldn't look too old running after jack but you could still see she was near 50-I think she is in her 70's now.

No that doesn't mean it would be a Ropers situation. I meant that she was the sex-starved female older woman. It was the opposite with the Ropers situation with RF and Lana - RF wanted to be with her, but Lana didn't wanna be with him. Ann Wedgeworth is 66 now, She was in her 40s when she played Lana.

Did she come from another show before Three's Company because she was featured in the opening credits so maybe the producers were impressed from previous work she had done.

She had just won a Tony Award for her work on Neil Simon's Chapter Two. ABC was impressed and had her sign a contract with them. She was offered the role adn she took it. "Lana" would've been in the credits no matter who would've played her.

Well Larry earned his a spot on the opening credits because he was a guest star before he was featured i the opening credits-I always thought you had to prove yourself before you are shown in the opening credits.

The reason Larry wasn't included in the opening credits during season two and three was probably becaus the producers and ABC didn't want to shell out money to make a new opening or add him into it. But with the Ropers going, they would've had to re-edit the opening anyway so they included RF Larry and Lana.
