What is with you and dream lineups? This board is for questions, opinions, and REAL schedules for sitcoms.

DITTO!

I don't have a dream lineup for TNN. The only dream I have is for them to remove that black bar!

I'm with Jenny, LOL, get rid of that UGLY black bar! If I ever make dream lineups, it's on my own time, and on my computer, but I'm done dreaming, LOL, I'll accept what I can get, and Harper, you should too. It's nice to dream of what could be, but all it does is ruin the enjoyment you could be having watching TV (well, for me it does!).

I know I hate having to see that dumb black bar while watching Three's Company. And those stupid voice overs at the closing theme I can't stand those either.

Why dont they just have the bar come up occasinally to give information instead of having it up all the time.

or better yet create a whole new logo for each show. Example: Talk Shows

If you ever watch a talk show you notice that the name of the show, or at least the person is in white in one of the lower corners. I think something like that could work for TNN, if they remove the black bar and just have the name of the show in medium sized letters on the screen. It could be white letters or yellow letters. I'm not talking about doing a whole fancy lettering thing with a million colors. It would just as simple to have something like this:

Three's Company *pretend this is white and a medium size text*

Well the Deadly Black Bar isn't even necessary at that. A simple bug in the corner of the screen would suffice to ID the network. And even THAT isn't necessary to the extent the networks do it. For:

I know what I'm watching

Amen.

The theory behind "bugs" is like this:

A: Corporate Branding. See the networks think that, much like Coke and McDonalds, if they leave their station ID bug or logo up all the time (like during the show and breaks), the viewer will associate the TV show w/the service that's bringing it to them. Which means the viewer will come back for more of the same. This theory is absurd in its face because people normally watch "Shows" not "Networks".

I mean the Brady Bunch or Brady Grid could be on ESPN and it wouldn't matter.

B: Identification. You know what channel you're watching right? I mean you're not stupid viewers. Well this theory says that in a land of 500 channels, a viewer needs a quick way to tell which channel they're on. In the olden days, a Station ID would be flashed on screen every so often in AD TIME. But people only had 3 channels to choose from anyhow. Now w/lots of channels...yea yea yea. The bug is left up all the time cause we're too dense to know where we're at This theory is also absurd because of the technology to flash the info on newer TVs, as well as looking in a cotton picking TV Guide

Amen.

C: Another Identification Theory, this time involving Neilsen Families. I've seen this on the Usenet, which is for All Nations, Tongues, and Kindreds. It says that the Nielsen Families have to keep track of the networks in Diaries! So the logo bug stays up during the show so they can tell what channel they're on and they can give proper Neilsen Ratings. This theory is absurd because it sounds stupid. Millions of people having to endure on screen junk because of a few Neilsen Families.

D: And finally, the Theory of Copyright. Yes I've seen this all over the Usenet. It says that the BUG protects the shows by making sure people won't tape a show off Nick at Nite and sell it on the street. See people would see the bug; yea the N@N logo and call the cops or something. This ALSO is absurd. For EVERY SHOW has a disclaimer in the credits that says "Copyright Sherwood Schwartz The Brady Bunch 69-73" or something like that.

Amen.

And as for TNN's Deadly Black Bar, it goes beyond the "acceptable" standards of TV Bugs or Logos, which are typically on the right bottom corner of the screen. CNN and ESPN ALSO have black bars, but they have a purpose! News and Sports Scores and Stuff. However, TNN seems to me to be a Cut Rate Ripoff, employing such joke acts as Anna Nicole Smith and Robot Wars Extreme (which replaced Diff'rent Strokes!). Therefore I've given TNN an F - - or Negative Numbers.

Let's give Jesus a Handclap.
